After Alice left Elijah returned with a sad and somber aura. "Cheer up brother. At least you have your memories with her." Elijah looked at me like I had gone mad. His confusion turned to realization as I ran my finger over a ring I had recieved from Alice as a birthday present. It started to come back days after we discoverd the curse. In large waves I found my memories of her returning. Everything from her laugh to the way she used to act around my father.
"Brother what has happened to you?" Elijah asked confused. "What do you mean?" I asked unsure as to whether something was wrong. "You've changed. You would normally yell at me to deal with my pain yet now you comfort me?" He had a puzzled look. His eyes focused on me as if he was trying to solve some great puzzle.
"It's Alice isn't it?" He said in realization. "She's starting to change you isn't she brother!" He smiled. "Where is she?" He asked confused. "She left." I said irritatedly. I explained to my brother what had happened and he started to translate what I remembered from the glance I had of the book.
"I was able to translate it! It was in an ancient language that dates back farther than latin." He said excitedly. "In order to save the other's life one of the two lovers must sacrifice themselves before the full moon however if a drop of each lovers blood is shed that very night the curse will be broken." Where would they get the most moon light? She said something about a river.
I rushed down the river side and reached just in time to see Marcel holding Alice up by the throat while another vampire restrained my sister Rebeka. "When I'm finished with you I may end up having a little fun with the pretty blonde over there." Marcel purred evilly. "That's not a good idea." Alice choked out. "And why's that?" Marcel asked smirking.
"Because she's my sister." I killed all the vampires leaving Marcel alive. I didn't have the heart to kill him. "So are you going to kill this broad now?" I felt anger bubble inside of me. He has to die. I thought forgetting my prior thoughts of mercy. "No I'm going to kill you." I watched as Alice's blade cut Marcel's head clean off. "That was for Josette you son of a bitch!" She said angrily. She looked over at my sister. "That felt good."
I smiled then looked at Alice. She backed away slowly as she looked at me then turned and ran. "Alice!" I ran after her catching her from behind. She struggled against me. "There's another way love." She gave me a confused look and stopped struggling. "Look." She looked at my memory.
Her heart beat quicked suddenly. Her eyes looked concerned "What's wrong love?" I asked confused. She pulled away slightly. "Nothing you're just too close." She said. I pulled her closer. "Like this." I leaned in. "Oh get a room." Alice ran up to Rebeka and healed her wounds. "That's not a bad idea love." Alice turned to look at me. "Getting a room." She threw a stone at me. "I'll stay with Elijah for the night give you two some time to spend together." Rebeka said smiling then disappeared. Alice sighed and we slowly started to walk back to her apartment.
"You know we could leave here once the curse is broken. We could go anywhere you want to go." I said smiling as I laced our hands together smiling brightly at her. She stared into my eyes as I smiled down at her. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves Klaus. Let's break the curse first." She said walking ahead of me.
"Why do you feel the need to do that?" I asked making her turn to me confused. "You try and block everything else out and everyone else out. You never let anyone get close to you love." I asked stroking her cheek. "You do the same thing Nik. In fact you make it more obvious." "You're starting to remember too?" She nodded smiling.
"Don't you remember when you asked me to stay away from you? The first time you lost control with me." I looked at Alice unsure as to where she was going with this. "Then let me show you." Alice hugged me pressing our foreheads against each other.
"I appreciate you being here but we cannot be together." I said coldly my back turned to Alice as I stared up at the moon standing on a cliff that over looked the sea. I had just lost my brother Alec and I had come up to the mountains to clear my head. "What? Why?" Alice asked fear lacing her voice. She probably thought her father cancelled the wedding. I smiled at the thought of our marriage. No. I shook my head. I'm bad for her. "You had me pegged from the start. A man tortured by his demons and those demons aren't dormant they are hell bent on killing me! And destroying everything beautiful in my life." I said turning to face her. I cupped her cheek as she leaned into my touch. "And you are so beautiful." I whispered.
I could feel my inner beast clawing it's way out. It was becoming harder to focus on Alice rather than her corroted artery. "Alice I am a monster. You're mother was right. You shouldn't be near me when I'm like this....or at all. I could kill you." Alice looked up at me and smiled. "Then turn me." I looked away. I could feel myself losing control. "Never! I will never do to you what was done to me." I insisted. "Then you are just going to have to get used to me. I am not walking away Nik. Not now....not ever." She said using both hands to cup my cheeks and run her thumb over my cheek bones closest to my eyes. Slowly I felt the urge to kill disappear. She tamed me.
Alice pulled away smiling before she turned and walked ahead of me. I appeared in front of her. "I'm not going to let you go home love until you tell me you'll go with me." I said smirking at her as I crossed my arms over my chest. She sighed irritated. "Fine." She said rolling me eyes. "Fine...." "Fine I will leave with you once the curse is broken and we will go visit exotic places and see the world together." She smiled at me brightly.
When we reached Alice's apartment I pinned her against the closed front door and pressed my lips against her's. In minutes my shirt was unbuttoned and her jacket had been discarded somewhere in the room. I kissed her neck softly and pressed my body against her's as we stumbled into her bedroom. My shirt was torn off and thrown away.
We pressed foreheads against each other. Alice stradeled me and leaned in to kiss me once more when she started to sway gently. Her eyes became clouded. "K-Klaus." She fell backwards off the bed. I caught her easily. "Alice!" I said in a concerned voice. "It's the side affects." She said still looking dazed. "They're supposed to get worse as we get closer to the full moon." She whispered.
I looked at her wrist to see the number twenty one on it. I nuzzled her and wrapped my arms around her. "I'm not going anywhere love...and neither are you." I whispered pressing my lips under her right ear lobe. She smiled softly. I watched as she fell asleep in my arms sleeping peacefully. Maybe Elijah was right. Maybe she is changing me.
I woke up the next morning to see Alice sitting on the couch reading once more. She was so focused she barely noticed me walk in. Her red curls were touseled, she had dark circles under her eyes and her white v-neck with her trackpants were crumpled. I whistled. She looked up.
"Even in the morning after a tough night you look breathtaking." I said trying to sound like Elijah. "Klaus you shouldn't talk like that. It doesn't suit you." She said giving me a weak smile. I chuckled. "So how goes the search?" I asked sitting down across from her noticing the pot of cold tea and her tea cup. "I can't find anything helpful. Just stuff we already now." She said exasperated.
I picked up the pot and tea cup then walked over to the kitchen. "I got it Klaus!" Alice called. She didnt move. The pot of old tea emptied itself and the tea cup washed itself as water started to boil. I laughed. Magic of course.
I brought the new tea and clean tea cups out to Alice to find her rubbing her temples. "What's wrong love?" I asked gently taking her hands away from her head. "I've been at this since 5am. I can't find anything." She said. "I need a break." I looked at the time. It was 10am. She had been reading for 5 hours straight. "Yes you do."
I noticed some of her mail sat on her table. I pulled a brochure for a ball that would be taking place that night. "Well why don't I take you to this? hhmm?" I asked. She looked up from her cup of tea and shook her head. "Alice you need to relax love. I know we have a time constraint but you need a break you said it yourself. Find a dress, then read, then come to the ball with me." I said.
She opened her mouth to answer when someone spoke for her. "I think that's an absolutely brilliant idea Nik." We both turned to see Rebeka. "Besides Alice and I could use some girl time." I chuckled and nodded. I felt a tinge of concern for Elijah when I realized he wasn't with my sister. I froze with realization. Elijah was right...she is changing me.
