I watched Alice as she flipped through the pages reading carefully. I really loved Alice and all I wanted to do was to wrap my arms around her and ensure her that everything was going to be okay. But honestly I didn't know that and neither did she. That's why she was scared. "That's called staring you know." I looked up and smiled at her. "What can I do to help love? I feel so useless."

"Well standing there and staring is more distracting then your uselessness at this point." She smiled trying to brighten my mood but i could feel her fear and see how exhausted she was. Music really helped her calm down when she was frustrated the other day. I noticed that her hair no longer shined but was a dull red and her eyes looked just as dull with dark circles under neath them. Her shuolders slumped in exhaustion and her clothes were clumped....well more so than her usual sleeping attire.

"You need to shower and rest." I stated taking a strand of her hair between two of my fingers and rubbing them together. Her hair was oily too. "No Klaus I have to-" "No!" I thundered. I hated using this tone with her but I knew she wouldn't go unless I forced her. "You need to rest." I said softly. She sighed and nodded knowing it was useless to argue with me at that point.

I watched as she walked into her room then went into the washroom. I lay down on her bed waiting for her and started to think. What if Kol did have the answer? I was so deep in thought I barely noticed Alice as she entered and change until she was getting into bed next to me. I smiled as she snuggled into me. I kissed her forehead and tugged her closer to me by her waist.

"Look at what your doing to me Aly." I murmured against her forehead. "Me? Look at what your doing to me!" I chuckled at this. I pressed my lips against her forehead. She gently nuzzled me. I kissed her softly. She wrapped her arms around my neck deepening the kiss. After a few minutes of kissing she pulled away. I groaned as she pecked me on the cheek. She snuggled into me again and closed her eyes. I chuckled.

Her red hair had a slight gloss once again and her body looked so much more relaxed. I smiled. That's when I felt him. I felt his precense again. I kissed my sleeping princess and slid off the bed. I walked out onto the balcony to see Kol and another women standing below us on the streets of New Orleans. "Tell Alice I'm waiting for her by the docks and give her this." He threw me an envelope.

I caught it and looked up to see my brother gone. I quickly walked inside and set the envelope down. This is probably spelled. I thought as I noticed something beside the mess of books and papers. It was a necklace. An old fashioned necklace that looked like it had been specially preserved. It had deep blue stone as a pendent. It was beautiful and so familiar. Then suddenly I felt images flash before my eyes.

"Alice!" I called out as I walked through the forest. I smiled as I spotted the red headed beauty who stood stroking the muzzle of a horse in front of her. As I got closer I could hear her clear and sweet voice. She sang a song about heartbreak causing my chest to ache at the sight of her tears. Her dark cloak's hood covered her face but I could see the sleeves of her white dress which she wore stained with her wet tears and her long strands of scarlette red hair which were messy and loose. She had been playing with her hair, a habit she had when she was upset.

"Alice? What could such a fair maiden such as youself be doing here on such a dreary night?" She turned and the pain in my chest increased. She eyes were clouded and glassy with tears. "My mother was finally put to sleep eternally Niklaus. She gave me a protection against those creatures of the night." She whispered. "I'm so sorry Alice. Would you like me to help you bury her?" She shook her head. "I have something that might cheer you up." I said watching as she dried her tears and turned to look at me curiously. I held out a box to her.

"Niklaus!" She said in shock as she opened the tattered box revealing a necklace that had a diamond studded dark blue stone as the pendent. "A beautiful necklace for a beautiful girl." I whispered as I put the necklace on for her. "Niklaus I know you have feelings for me but...." I looked into her eyes. I saw regret, pain and a flash of an emotion I didn't recognize.

"Alice how could you know? How I wish to see you every hour of everyday? How I yearn to touch your soft smoothe skin or kiss your lucious lips? How I want to run my fingers through you red hair and hold you close when your scared? How could you know?" I whispered caressing her cheek. "I know because I wish to be with you every hour of each day and feel your soft touch and kiss. I wish to feel you running your fingers through my hair and to hold me close when I am frightened." She said surprised at her own words. I smiled and pulled her close to me. I leaned down and pressed my lips against hers.

She suddenly pulled away. "Niklaus if my mother tries to enact vengence from beyond the grave through any of the other witches in our village...she would kill us both...." She trailed off fear in her eyes telling me all I needed to know. "She will do nothing to you or to myself. She's dead Alice she can't hurt us." I said as I hugged her closer to me. "I love you." I heard her say softly. "I love you too."

I opened my eyes and froze when I realized that I was now in Alice's room leaning into her sleeping figure. I quickly moved away. I slipped the necklace around her neck. "I love you Alice. I've never said that to anyone before but I know I love you. I know I can trust you." I said softly. "I love you too." I looked down to see Alice smiling up at me. Her grey eyes sparkled as she sat up and pulled me into a long and passionate kiss. I love you Alice Castaga and until my dying breathe I will protect you. "How sweet!" We both looked up to see the one person I never expected to ever see again. No I ran him out of town. He should've perished in the fires. "Darrel."
