I stared at my mother in shock. “What do you want Esther?” Alice asked as John who seemed to be oblivious to the severity of the situation hugged his mother’s arm looking up at his grandmother in fear. “Your son. He has to die in order to stop the wrath of Michael." “Never.” I said immediately. “Explain why that’s so Esther….please. We want to know why you would come for him.” Alice pleaded in fear. She knew she was weaker than my mother so she needed to try and buy time at least.

“It started long before Finn when I had my first born Frigga. She was killed by the plague and so to protect my children I cast a spell to protect all my children after Frigga but I was too weak to do so. I then asked the assistance of a powerful witch. In exchange for the spell she asked for the first born of the next generation and since I expected to have no grandchildren I agreed not realizing that you would have to then pay the price.”

“So you gambled the life of a child, your grandchild so you wouldn’t have to feel the horrid loss of losing your own children?” Alice asked raising an eyebrow. “Yes I am so sorry. I will make his death swift now-“ “What are the consequences if he doesn’t die?” I asked almost reading my fiancée’s mind. “The witch will reaturn and kill all the witches in our blood line. I have to kill John it is the honourable thing to do.” Esther said.

“Honour? You rant about honour and the right thing to do when in reality you are worse than we are. You are killing a child- your son’s child in order to save your own skin. No one in our family is a witch. So you will be the only one to die.” Alice said coldly. “Rot in hell you treacherous wench.”

“Ah but my child you see I brought you an old friend who may just ease the pain you feel when your child does die.” Esther said smirking evilly. “Give me John and I will show you.” The old witch said. “No.” I said scooping my son up. “ He is the last hope of innocence and purity in this family mother. I will not let you take this child away.” We turned to see Elijah standing at the door way of the house.

“Innocence? Purity?” Esther laughed humourlessly. “That creature you hold in your hand is nothing more than one of nature’s flaws. An accident. An abomination.” I could feel the rage radiating from Alice as my mother spoke. “Love calm down.” I whispered gently failing miserably at soothing Alice’s anger. “If she calls our son a monster again I will rip her head off.” She growled earning a disapproving look from Esther.

“It truly pains me that the four of you look at me with such hatred and distain. I truly have tried to help you. After all you are my family.” Alice shook her head. “No. Family means you protect the people you love from pain. You shield them from that which could hurt them. You have done nothing but intensify that.” Rebekah said finally piping up. “How dare you speak to me that way! I am your mother!” “You are a whore who was too stupid and afraid to admit that she was married to an insufferable hypocrite to tried to slaughter your entire family!” Alice yelled throwing my mother back using magic.

Esther got to her feet and glared at Alice shooting my love with magic as she lunged forward at the women. Alice was brought to her knees in pain as she gripped her head tightly. “I don’t think you are right for my son Alice. You teach him and his child nothing but violence and death. I think its time we end your prolonged life so you can see your family again. Don’t you?” Alice started to bleed from her eyes and nose but before I could move to help my wife to be I was thrown back and pinned to the house while Elijah and Rebekah’s necks were snapped. Little John ran over to his mother. “Mommy. Please don’t leave me.” He begged. “I will never leave you.” She whispered as she tapped her son’s chest lightly. But her eyes were closing as her body collapsed to her side.

I felt my entire body go cold. No. I listened intently and prayed that I would hear the sound that would give me a glimmer of hope. Her heart was barely beating. She’s not dead. I closed my eyes as I tried to calm down. My mind was racing as I watch John cradle his mother’s head. “Mommy!” He wailed in sorrow. Esther started to walk towards her grandson but he threw her back against a tree using magic. “You are a big meany!” He yelled angrily while crying. “Bring her back!” John yelled his eyes turning gold. Esther sputtered out gibberish in attempt to speak but John’s hold on her was so tight she began to sink into the bark of the old oak tree a huge crack travelling up the trunk. “I……can’t…..” She gasped for air as John released her.

John glared at the women. “You will trade places with her.” Esther’s head shot up. “How do you know about that?” I could see the fear in her eyes as John approached her. “Grimwores I’ve read said so. Do it.” John growled. Esther started to speak when John lifted Esther up by the throat and pinned her to the tree once again the tree flew to pieces. Splinters hit the unconscious bodies of my siblings. I finally dropped to my feet and rushed to Alice’s pale body. “Alice. Come back to me. Please. Don’t leave me.” I whispered playing with her daylight ring. I tried to blink away the tears in my eyes but a few fell one hitting the gem on Alice’s daylight ring.

I kissed Alice before laying her down and walking over to my son. “Switch places with her!” I shook my head. “She can’t son. But she can give all of her power to save Alice. To save your mother.” I said growing my claws out as I grabbed Esther’s wrist dragging her towards Alice who’s heart beat was growing fainter. “Do it!” I yelled gripping my son tightly as Esther with trembling hands laid her hands down over Alice’s body. She closed her eyes and we watched as her body glowed gold as magic flowed from her and was absorbed by Alice.

I could hear her heartbeat increasing. Esther pulled away after a few minutes. “All of it!” John growled. “I can’t if I-“ She gasped as her treachea was being crushed by her grandson’s foot. “She won’t be able to contain that much power….it…it will kill her!” John released my mother and walked to his mother’s side holding her hand gingerly. “Please wake up mommy.” He whispered rocking back and forth on his hinges.

Esther got to her feet and glanced at John. “He is-“ “Exactly like his mother. Loving in every way unless you put someone he loves in danger. Though I believe he gets his temper from me.” I said smiling as I could hear Alice’s heart beat starting to quicken.

"Michael will die and I...." I looked at my mother. "Will leave you and your family be but  Niklaus there is something you must know." Esther said seriously. "The witch Ianna I had gone to when I wanted to protect my children she will be coming within the next month but....she changed her name to Renora and got married to a man who tended to the town's crops." I froze and turned to look at my mother in realization. "Rennora as in....." She nodded. I shook my head. "Does Alice know?" She shook her head. "Then we must inform her that her mother will be coming to visit very soon."
