Sixteen year old Emma and Regina were laying down on a picnic blanket in the park. It was a nice day out so they decided to make the most of it.
Emma's phone was currently blaring out a Cimorelli song and Regina was cuddled up close to the blonde. They had been friends since they were ten and had been dating for over a year.
Regina ran her fingers across Emma's bare arm gently and the dark haired woman tried to smile, but it was no use. She had to tell Regina sooner or later.
She moved away from Rehina's hold and sat up.
"I have to tell you something."
Regina slowly sat up confused.
"What's wrong Emma?"
Emma sighed and reached for Regina's hand and held it on her lap.
"Meeting you was the best thing that happend to me. Before we started dating, I was a broken mess. Killian cheated on me and everyone left me, except for you. You stood by me and you fixed me. You fixed my broken heart. You promised to never leave me and you have kept that promise. You've always been here for me and...You're my everything." Emma paused fighting back tears.
"Emma?" Regina said slowly.
"I'm moving away." Emma cried.
Regina felt her heart beat quicken and she sat there shocked.
"Moving where?"
Emma let a few tears fall before answering.
"England." She whispered.
Regina's eyes widened and she quickly stood up, Emma copying.
"How long have you known?"
"A few months, I didn't want to tell you because I hoped my parents would change their minds."
Regina began to cry and she shook her head.
"So that's it then? We're over."
"No..No..I'm not saying we should break up." Emma said quickly and took a step closer to the dark haired girl.
"Well I am. Long distant relationships don't work. They never do. What if you lose feelings for me because you've found someone who is there? That would kill me Emma."
"That won't happen." Emma cried harder.
"You don't know that. Things change."
"It'll be okay. You'll see. Just don't leave me please." Emma begged.
"Don't fucking lie to me! It won't be okay, and you're the one leaving me. I'm not the one moving to a different country, that's across the world." Regina snapped, tears falling from her eyes.
Emma reached for Regina but she stepped away.
"Nothing much will change. We can still play on the PS4 together. We can still talk. Kik. Skype. I'll be coming back every few weeks to visit family. You can come see me. I can see you. Please Regina don't do this."
"I don't want anything to change. I'm sorry Emma. It's over." Regina said walking away from the sobbing blonde.
Emma fell to her knees, feeling her heart break.
"I LOVE YOU REGINA MILLS. I FELL HARD FOR YOU. I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU. I WILL COME BACK TO YOU. I PROMISE." Emma yelled after her, hoping Regina would turn around, but nothing changed.
Regina just kept on walking, her head was down and she watched her tears fall to the ground.
This was the last time they would see eachother until...
Ten years later
"I was supposed to come here for my eighteenth birthday, but after the accident I couldn't. But now I'm finally here." Emma grinned.
Her best friend Ruby laughed and nudged Emma slightly.
"Remind me why we couldn't wait until Walker Stalker Con came to London?" Ruby asked.
Emma looked around ignoring her friend until she nudged her again.
"You know why. I'm looking for someone I lost years ago. Even if she didn't believe me, I made her a promise and I intend to keep it."
Ruby smiled and wrapped an arm around Emma and pulled her closer.
"You really like this girl huh?"
Emma nodded her head and sighed sadly.
"But it's been ten years. She might have a boyfriend, maybe even a husband and kids. She's probably forgotten all about me."
"She might not have."
Emma looked at Ruby and gave her small smile before accidently bumping into someone.
"Oops. Sorry." They said at the same time.
Emma's jaw dropped.
"Emma!" Regina gasped, her eyes locking on to her arm where a scar sat, going across her arm, ending at her wrist.
"Hey Gina." Emma smiled.
"What happend to your arm?" Regina asked.
"I...I got into a...An accident...I broke my arm and needed metal plates."
Even though it had been ten years, nothing seemed different between the two. Except they both grew up and matured into two, young beautiful women.
"Anyways...You have a husband?" Emma asked casually causing Ruby to roll her eyes.
"No." Regina chuckles. "I don't have a boyfriend either...I haven't since...You left..." Regina paused and glanced towards Ruby. "I see you have a girlfriend." She said sadly.
Emma and Ruby looked at eachother and then burst into a fit of laughter.
"She's not my girlfriend." Emma laughed. "She's my best friend."
Regina gave a sigh of relief and felt her heart flutter as Emma took her hand and held it. She felt her old feelings coming back, she didn't want to lose Emma again. She promised herself she wouldn't hurt again.
"Remember when I told you that I was moving and you walked away?" Emma said.
"I do..." Regina said slowly.
"I made you a promise. Now look at us." Emma smiled proudly.
Regina laughed and Emma wanted to pull Regina close and kiss her lips, seems Regina had the same idea for she wrapped her arms around Emma and pulled her close, their lips touching.
They kissed slowly, ignoring Ruby as she aww'ed.
"I love you Emma Swan. I fell hard for you. I never forgot you. And now that you're here I don't want to lose you again." Regina said pulling away.
Emma smirked and kissed Regina's nose.
"I'm here to stay. I moved back. I live with Ruby."
"So..."
"So if you want...Will you be my girlfriend once more? I told you I'd come back to you and I did."
Regina smiled and nodded her head.
"Yes. I will be your girlfriend."
"I never forgot you." Emma whispered.
"I never forgot you either."
They stared deep into eachothers eyes and they leaned in slowly and as their lips touched, the past ten years melted away. It's as if nothing changed.
