"Breathe Me" (Sequel to "Don't Let Me Get Me") (Ben Mason Fanfic)

Chapter Twelve : "Things We Lost in the Fire"

Allison's P.O.V

 "How long has it been since we left Charleston?" Ben asked. "3 or 4 I guess" I replied while trying to heat some canned foods. It's been a couple of days since the wedding and the kidnapping happened, to be honest, Charlie's disappearance ruined the whole day for me and I think it took me a couple of hours to let everything sink in. And I still haven't got a proper sleep since that day, I'm too focus on finding my son and if I can, I'll look for him 24/7.

 Ben on the other hand is having a hard time. I think he blames all of it to himself, he swore to take care of Charlie and Me. Because of what happened,  he's slowly punishing himself for not doing his responsibilities. And even if he's not telling me anything about this, I can feel his pain. Every night, you can just hear bottles and glasses being broken, all caused by him.

 I've tried to tell him that he has nothing to do with what happened but he's not listening. I think all that's in his mind right now is Charlie and Karen's death. He's eager to kill her, he's dying to wrap his hands around her neck and snapped that motherfucker head off.

 "Allison, do you think he's still alive? Our son?" Ben asked as he sat beside me. I handed him a can full of soup and said 'Yes'. The reason why I'm not as frantic as him is I've learned that nothing will happen if all you do is panic and besides, Karen said it herself .. they need Charlie which means they're not gonna kill him, which also means there's a chance we can get him back. But that will only happen if Ben and I will trust in each other and work the way we are before. We need to get our groove back.

 "I don't get. Why are you so optimistic?" Ben asked while staring at me.

 "Why are you so pessimistic?" I asked him and he just smiled and continued eating. I looked around and realized that the aliens haven't reached this place yet and it's pretty covered. If something happens in Charleston, I'll definitely suggest this place.

 "Or not" I thought to myself as I saw a group of Mega Mechs searching the area about 100 feet away from us. "Ben" I whispered to him and as he saw them, we dropped our food and got onto our car. The thing with Mega Mechs is that they're "Mega" which pretty much means they're a more bad ass version of an already bad ass machine. One looked at us and flashed what it seemed like a heat sensor.

 "We have to go" Ben whispered , I started the car and we drove away. Suddenly, a loud explosion happened, I looked through the rear mirror and saw the mini camp we built in is on fire. We just got out in time.

 "Oh shit. Our Food's gone" I uttered and then looked at Ben who's already firing at some skitters who were able to close in on us.

 "Drive faster!" He shouted and so I did. History does repeat itself because I didn't realized that the road we're taking on has a huge chunk of a root on it's way. And just like a giant hump, it definitely made our car fly through the air. We landed roughly on the other side and I think Ben injured himself through the fall.

 "I'm sorry" I said.

 "It's okay. Just keep your head on the road" he said while still firing at the Mega Mechs who just showed up on our side.

 "Ben. There's a beamer in front of us" I said as he looked at the airship that's heading our way. There's a way into the woods on my left side so I made a rough turn and started trekking the woods. "Hold tight" I told Ben who held on to his chair. The ride is a little bouncy due to all the rocks but we have no choice, if we kept on going we would have been killed.

 "They're still tailing us" Ben uttered and when I looked at the mirror I saw groups of skitters, Mechs , Mega Mechs and Beamers coming after us. It's like a whole group or a whole chunk of their army are attacking us. 

 "It's Karen right?"

 "Yeah. She must have probably figured us out" he uttered as I felt a sudden Deja Vu. This happened before, I looked at the end of the road and there's a cliff. "Ben we don't have any road left" I told him and he just said told me to prepare. We're going to jump again.

 ====================

 I don't think Karen's the leader of the group that's been after us. Because if it's Karen, she would be careful, she will not kill us on the chase. These aliens however are the exact opposite. They want to get us killed.

 I just braced myself for the next thing that happened. We were off in the air and down at the ocean below. I looked at Allison right at the time she was about to make a massive intake of air. The minute we got underwater, I immediately unbuckled my belt. I have to help Allison, I have to keep her alive.

 She's panicking again, trying to free herself from the seat belt. I helped her out of it by destroying a part of the chair. I know I'm getting stronger every single day but I have to save it for Karen and the other Overlords, I'll make sure I'm the who's gonna take them down.

 We were able to rise on the surface just after a few moments. Thankfully they all left, but that doesn't mean we should be happy, I'm sure a reinforcement group will search the area. It sucks because we lost all of our things right now and to be honest, it's not safe to go down there anymore because of the strong current.

 "Allison?" I called out for her but she's nowhere. "You've gotta be kidding me" I thought to myself as I went back underwater. I saw her swimming towards the car, and then there's a massive shark coming after her. "Oh My God" I thought to myself as I ran as fast as I could to get to her. She's inside, that's good, I think.

 I swam as fast as I could and thankfully I made it in before the shark could get to us. The massive beast rocked our car, I held Allison close to me as I'm trying to figure out how to kill it. I only have small knives strapped on my body. I saw the C4 at the back but I don't think it's gonna work now that it's wet. 

 The gun, that's right I can use the gun. I reached for the one with the longest snout and broke it to make a shard end. I looked at Allison and then she nodded. I swam to the back of the car and then opened the door just as when the shark caught my movement. I looked back and saw Allison sneak her way up. 

 As soon as I know she's safe, I launched myself at the incoming shark. Just like at that "Tale of Jonah", I was inside the shark. I stabbed it's insides just before it could close it's jaws and completely crush me on it's mouth.

 Then there's blood coming out of everywhere. I made my way out as fast as I could and then swum my way back to the surface. I have to get out of the water as fast as I could, the gun's not gonna hold his jaws very long. I noticed Allison calling me out from the top of a rock. I made my way there and she helped me up.

 "Thank God you're alive" she said as she hugged me really tight.

 "Why did you went back?" I asked her, pissed because it seemed like she literally put her own life in danger. Allison then reached for her pocket and brought out a small beanie.

 "You went back for a small beanie?"

 "Yes, It's for Charlie"

 "That's just stupid Allison"

 "Stupid? At least I know how to value our son" she said with her voice raised. I'm shocked, I never saw this side of Allison. She got back into the water and made her way to the land under the cliff. Right at that moment I knew that we just didn't lose all the material things .. I think I lost her too.
