"Breathe Me" (Sequel to "Don't Let Me Get Me") (Ben Mason Fanfic)

Chapter Eight : "A little too close for comfort .."

 "What?" Allison asked as soon as I told her what happened. "He's murdered. The weapon in a Volm Gun" I added and then sat beside her. "I knew the Volms can't be trusted" she remarked. What could be the reason for his murder? Oh wait, Gen. Bressler said that Dr. Manchester made a list of possible moles that are affecting our missions. He must have came a little too close for comfort that's why he got killed.

 "I know why he's killed" I said and then looked at Allison who just seemed to be more terrified than ever. "Really?" she asked.

 "Yeah. He made a list of the possible moles and have already narrowed it down to a dozen. I think he knew who the mole is that's why he's killed"

 "Oh God"

 "I know. What's even worst is probably, the mole took the list and we're left here with no idea at all at who's the enemy and who's not" I said and then looked at the door. I swear I just saw a shadow of a person standing right outside, maybe it's Dad ... or Hal, I don't know.

 "Ben what is it?" Allison asked as I got up and opened the door.

 "I think I just saw someone in here" I replied and then looked at her. "Is it a shadow?" she then asked. "Yes" I replied.

 "Ben .. welcome to my world" she uttered and then sighed. So what she said is true, there really is a shadow figure looming around us. I walked back to her and Charlie and held them close.

 "I'm not gonna let it hurt you" I whispered to her and she smiled. Whatever it is, I think Karen is the one to blame for it.

 We cuddle for a few more minutes, then I had to leave the room to ask Dad about the investigation, I still need to know what really happened in order to fully asses the protective measures we must put up to protect the whole Charleston camp.

 "Dad!" I called out as I ran towards him.

 "What do you want Ben?" he asked.

 "So do you know who killed him? Dr. Manchester? and why?"

 "I'm afraid the answer to your question is 'no'. But we're doing our best to find that bastard as soon as possible"

 "It's the mole right? the one who killed him?"

 "Yes" he replied. Suddenly, Denny came rushing towards us. "Ben, we need to talk. Now!" she said and then ran back out. I followed her outside and saw some of the rebel skitters just outside the skitter camp.

 "What happened?" I asked her, then the rebel skitter leader established a connection with Denny. "We saw a female figure run towards the woods. We tried to follow it but it just disappeared"

 "Really? When?"

 "An hour"

 "That's about the same time Dr. Manchester's body been discovered. Do you think that whoever you saw, it could be the mole?"

 "Maybe. The only reason we knew it's a girl is because of it's body built. There's a cover on his head that's why we didn't saw her face"

 "Is that all? I need to tell Dad about this"

 "Yes" he replied. I immediately ran out of the skitter camp to tell Dad about the information, he needs to know that the mole is a girl. It will be easier to find that bitch.

Allison's P.O.V

 My heart started beating fast, the mole is already up on his game. The mole might come for us, I need to make sure that we're gonna be safe.

 "Mama" I turned around and saw Charlie looking at me, "What are you up to now?" I asked and he just smiled. I walked towards him and he started pointing at the ceiling. I looked up and saw the shadow, I immediately grabbed Charlie and moved towards the door. My eyes are still fixed at the silhouette of a person across the ceiling, then all of a sudden .. it just disappeared.

 I already laid my hand on the handle of the door, ready to come out. But after a few moments, nothing happened so I returned to the bed. I looked at Charlie and he's still awake .. staring and smiling at me in the creepiest way possible.

 "You my baby boy will be the death of me" I whispered as I put him on his crib. "Allison?" I turned around and saw Lourdes standing right behind me.

 "Oh hey. Didn't hear you come in" I said.

 "That's okay. I'm just checking if everything's okay"

 "It is .. why?"

 "Nothing. Things happen so suddenly that sometimes you won't be able to react properly" she said and then left. What does she mean? I just decided to shrug it off, Lourdes is just concerned. I got Charlie's favorite toy and gave it to him, much to his excitement.

 As much as I wanna feel safe, I can't. Things are starting to get nasty again, and I won't wait for the day when it will all go to hell and my whole family and I will be caught in the middle.

 Suddenly, someone started knocking on the door, I opened it and saw a middle-aged lady. "I sense evil in here" she said , staring at me.

 "Excuse me?"
