CHAPTER 56 Made up My Mind
I am on my way to school and truth be told, I was really feeling anxious about what will happen after this. But I am still hoping it would come out just fine, though I know it would be hard for one them, and I look forward to him coping with this bad occurrence.
I saw Gail and Rence laughing together – which is odd – from afar while walking down the hallway. As soon as they laid their eyes on me, I can vividly see the surprised reaction from the both of them. On the other hand, I totally expected that same reaction from all of my friends the moment they see the jewelry laced around my neck.
They stared at me for a while and gave me a small smile. Perhaps they’re happy because I finally chose between the two of my beaus. I brushed through them until I came in front of our room. I am ready to face Dric and Dwight. I am ready to show them the neck lace I am wearing.
Before I could enter the door, I almost bumped into Zac as he was about to leave the room. He saw the necklace in me, and the look in his face is so much alike what Rence and Gail gave me. Similar to what I did to them, I also walked passed Zac without saying anything. I am concentrating and preparing my system for this matter.
When I finally entered the room – which I feel like compressing the three of us together – all I can see are the two of them and I believe both of them pinned their eyes on me at the same time also. But I just ignored Dwight and came near Dric to drag him off of that room. I can sense how gloomy he was while I’m holding his wrist.
I believe he already saw whose gift I’m wearing.
When we got out of there, I faced him but he can’t even look straight at me. I feel awfully bad while I see a very special friend of mine breaking his heart. We were standing right in front of each other with silence. Then I decided to break the ice. “I’m sorry Dric,” were the only words I could speak because I am bothered by the look on his face.
He awarded me with a forced fake smile. “Don’t feel pity. I respect and trust your decision,” he said. “Ang iniisip ko lang, sayang naman kung hindi mo gagamitin yung kwintas,” another fake gesture. “Pwede ko bang hingin ‘yon sayo? Ibabalik ko din pero hindi na kwintas, ipapapalit ko sa bracelet pero ganun pa din yung itsura. Okay lang?”
“Dric.” I’m truly breaking because I know he’s disregarding his feelings this time just to make this conversation light for me.
“Don’t be sad. You deserve to be happy. If you wouldn’t be happy, I will think you’re not sure about this decision which I know you wouldn’t want.”
But I just can’t be happy in front of an important person in this situation. “I hope everything will be fine between the two of us after this, Dric. You know how important you are to me. And you know I love you just the way I can.”
“Hindi ka naman aabutin ng matagal at hindi ka naman mahihirapan kung wala lang ako para sa’yo kaya alam ko ‘yon, Zoe.” Unti-unti nang nagiging totoo yung ngiti nya sa’kin. Pero alam kong may kirot padin sa loob nya. “’Wag na ‘wag ka nyang sasaktan kundi sayang naman lahat ng pinag-hirapan nya. I believe I gave him a good fight so he must treasure this opportunity of his, if not, I would never let him be near you again.”
