I was staring off into space a majority of the time after everybody got back, honestly. I couldn't stop thinking of no less than three memes.
And by memes I mean 'Mean Essential Mandatory Estimates'.
Which, for those people who aren't walking dictionaries like yours truly, means that I think about things I don't want to think of.
I was going over all of these memes while everybody chattered around me. First of all, my parents were gone. They had been murdered. That terrible reality set in once again, making my heart pound a little bit louder in my chest.
Second, where would my sisters go? They still couldn't go live on their own. I couldn't let them be taken into adoption on these terms. They would feel awful that I let this happen to them.
Finally, there was the fact that Joe had been stabbed. That fact frightened me along with the other two memes. I gulped and looked down nervously. I couldn't believe that something this bad had really happened to him... He had already been shot, and now this...?!
As the thoughts of Joe raced through my heads, I heard a few squeaks from nearby. I knew that familiar squeal: wheels.
I let out a shriek and covered my ears. I hated everything with wheels due to... An incident from when I was a teenager, but that really isn't important now. I should be focusing more on where that sound could be coming from. No car could be that loud for us to hear it inside this reinforced building.
"Dre-N? Are you okay?"
I gasped and looked up. "You're okay!!" I exclaimed, resisting the urge to say Joe's real name. I wrapped him up in a hug with a wide smile. Words couldn't describe how excited I was to see him here.
"What about you?" Joe asked me, his eyes glaring daggers into mine. "You looked sad a second ago."
"I'm okay. I was just getting sad because of the memes again," I told him.
"I understand," Joe said, nodding. I had explained the Mean Essential Mandatory Estimates thing to him before, and while he thought it was weird at first, he grew to appreciate it not long after. He had better if he wants to date me... They aren't going away anytime soon...
"But why are you here?" I asked as Vesgate walked in out of the corner of my eye.
"He stole a wheelchair to come see you," Vesgate explained before he started to walk back to the large group nearby.
"You stole it?" I asked, arching an eyebrow in curiosity.
"So what?" Joe questioned in return, his voice pure monotone.
I shrugged not long after. "Who cares? You're the head of Interpol anyways," I said.
"That's just what I was thinking on the situation," Joe agreed, a smile creeping onto his face. I loved his smile... I reminded me just of why I was so gay for him... Ah... Loving this man right here sure is a wonderful thing to experience...
"You're giving him the dreamy eyes again, bean."
T's voice frightened me out of my daydream. I let out a squeal that was at least two octaves above my regular voice. I heard T laugh from behind me, but I decided not to pay her any mind. She did that to S on a daily basis...
"Where did Milan and Connor go?" Joe eventually asked.
"I think that Milan is going to ask Connor if he'll adopt her," I told Joe in response. "I always figured that this would happen."
"Speaking of adoption, there's something I want to talk to you about," Joe said to me.
"What is it? Your voice got all dark there. Is something wrong?" I asked. If something was wrong, I didn't know what I'd do! Joe doesn't deserve this!
"Recently, I've heard that a young investigator was up for adoption. I figure that if we train her right, she could end up in Interpol along with us," Joe told me. "I was kind of curious about if maybe, just maybe, you would want to adopt her."
"But... Why me?" I asked.
"Because I thought that we could raise her together," Joe answered. He started to smile again, so I had to resist the urge to get lost in his perfect features...
"Staring again!"
Upon hearing T's cry once again, I looked up. I gasped as the thought of raising a child with Joe truly set in. "Seriously?!" I cried, my hands flying to my mouth. "That sounds like a great idea to me!"
"Her name is Zero," Joe told me.
I paused for a second, a certain meme settling in. "But what about Maia and Raegan? I'm all that they have left now, Joe," I reminded him.
"Well... I guess that means that we'll just have to take them in with us," Joe said.
"Are you sure we can support three girls?" I asked.
"With our pay, we could support thirty girls and still have enough leftover for sushi," Joe smirked.
After a few seconds (and I mean a brief few seconds), I nodded. "I'm in! Let's adopt a little girl!" I exclaimed.
"Later today, we'll have to go and see her, then," Joe said. "I'm sure that things with the Kuranin case will be wrapped up soon. Well... Our main investigator can put the information into the files once he stops screaming about what Dark Ness did to his plush toys."
I laughed and looked over at X. He was still panicking. "X? Can you put the information on the Kuranin into the files?" I asked.
X looked up. "Sure, I guess," he said simply. He held his bear and rabbit a little closer as he walked away.
"I'm pretty happy that this is all over now," I admitted. "Now... Just one last question..."
"What is it?" Joe asked me.
I sighed before asking. "Do you know what little girls like?"
Joe hesitated before giving me his honest answer. "Not a clue."
"In that case, I have seven seasons of Winx Club to show you as tutorial," I told him. "Get ready for some fairies."
