I threw the door open as we arrived at my old home. "Victor!" I yelled, hoping to attract the attention of my twin brother.
"Victor? That sure is a stereotypical name," Celosia scoffed, being just as pessimistic as usual.
"You act like your weird name of Celosia is something you were given naturally. I doubt that its even your real name," I told her. Celosia looked ready to slap me at hearing my snide remark.
"Connor? Is that you?"
I gasped as the man himself came strutting into the room. Victor's bright blue eyes stared back into mine. He adjusted his brown hair before doing the same to his blue jacket, which was over a white shirt and some jeans of the same color.
"Victor!" I exclaimed, running towards my brother. "You know the Kuranin case?!"
Victor gestured for me to calm down, so I took a deep breath before continuing. "There's evidence to show that one of the victims is still alive!" I yelled, not at all calmed.
"Yeah... I heard about that, too," Victor nodded. "I'm hoping that its June..."
"Looks like you got lucky this time."
A woman with long, purple hair came into the room, her eyes hidden behind glasses. She pushed the glasses further up onto her nose, most likely to make herself seem more serious and threatening. I admit that it worked.
"You're D, right?" Vesgate asked.
The woman didn't say anything, though she did nod.
"Why are you here? You don't have any right to come marching into a house for no reason, Smart Glasses!" Celosia shouted at her angrily.
"M told me to deliver you news. We found out who the living victim is," D told us, crossing her arms. She looked like a predator glaring down at her prey then. I'm a little worried, though, because in this situation, I'm her prey...
"Who's the living victim?!" Celosia cried. Her voice was cracking near the end, so she was hoping that it was her mother.
"June August," D replied. "When you said that you saw her, Clever, you were correct. Her body had no fingerprints on it, leading us to the conclusion that her body was falsified so that she could escape the clutches of the enemy."
"Where is she?! Where's June?! I need to see her!" I yelled, running to D and staring up at her with pleading eyes.
D frowned. "We don't know where she is. Nobody has seen her since Mr. Clever here, so we don't know where she could be as of now. We are working to find her, so I assure you that she will be returned to your home within a week."
"I wish that she wasn't so good at hide and seek now..." I heard Victor mutter. I knew that sassy remark was just a cover for the fact that tears were forming in his eyes. I wanted to give him a hug, but I was afraid of what D would do if I touched her... She's scary...
"We can go out and look for her a little bit more," Milan suggested. "If more people are working to find her, then we can find her sooner and catch those mean Kuranin meanies!"
"Interpol has it all under control. I advise all of you to go home and leave this investigation to the professionals," D said. She turned on her (high) heel and walked for the door. "Good day."
I waited until she was out of sight before I started thinking up the worst curse words I could. Celosia seemed to be just as frustrated as I was; it looked as if steam would come out of her ears any second now.
"Who does she think she is?! She can't just waltz in here and act like she can do whatever she wants! She can't do that! We're part of this investigation, too! Doesn't she know that?!" Celosia yelled.
"I guess that M still hasn't forgiven us after yesterday..." I murmured.
"It's okay, Connor! I'm sure that we'll be back together as a happy group by tomorrow!" Milan smiled, wrapping her arms around me.
I smiled at her gently. "Thanks, Milan. You're really sweet..."
"I know!" Milan giggled adorably.
"Now what? We don't have much else to look into now that we've solved the mystery of the living victim," Vesgate said.
"We have to go and look for June! She could be in danger!" Victor exclaimed. "What else are we supposed to do?!"
"I agree with Victor," I nodded.
"Quick question before we do that," Milan piped up.
"What is it?" Vesgate asked.
"I'm going to go outside for a second," Celosia told us. "I thought I saw something out there." She walked out, though none of us paid much attention. We were too focused on Milan.
"Who is this guy?" Milan questioned, pointing to Victor. "I don't know him."
"This is Victor Clever. He's my twin brother," I replied.
"So... If you really do adopt me... He'll be my uncle?" Milan asked.
"What's this about adoption?" Victor questioned, leading us to the door. I guess that he was eager to start looking for June...
"Nothing. I'll explain it later," I said. "For now, we need to focus on looking for June. We have no idea where she could be, and she might be in danger."
Vesgate gasped as he kicked something. He looked down and picked up a chopstick tipped with a violet charm.
Wait.
Didn't that chopstick thing belong to Celosia?
If so...
Where was she and why wasn't she here?
