//February 23, 2030. Train No. 801, 3:38 PM//

I walked with Milan back to our seats on the train, which were much closer to each other than I thought. "Are you doing okay?" I asked her. "You seemed pretty upset after the group split up..."

Milan nodded. "I'm okay..." She cuddled up next to me after moving to sit next to me. Connor was so dazed from the morning that he was staring out the window numbly, not really caring much about what was going on.

I eyed Connor. Milan seemed to be doing the same, though she was frowning much deeper than I was. "I'm worried about him... I don't think he meant to accidentally split up the group..." Milan whispered.

"Even if he didn't mean it, I doubt that M, N, F, or X will accept us back into their little group of perfect investigators," I muttered, shaking my head.

"I hope that they don't get mad at us... I really liked being around there," Milan admitted.

"Me, too..." I agreed. While I would never say it out loud in a million years, I liked being around the others. I didn't at first, but now... I feel accepted around them. I wasn't used to that. Only my mom had ever done that for me, but... She's gone now...

"Are you okay?" Milan questioned, noticing how I was spacing off.

I snapped out of my thoughts, no longer thinking about Mom. "I'm good," I lied. I was still thinking about my mom... Even if she died a few days ago, about a week now, I was still thinking... It's not like this stuff just goes away...

"I'm worried about Connor... I don't want him to feel bad about all of this," Milan said. "He wants to adopt me, and I don't think he'll be willing to do that if he's feeling this down about life."

"He's going to adopt you?" I gasped. "That's awesome, Milan."

"Thanks... Hey, do you want to come back to Connor's house with us?" Milan asked me.

A smile appeared on my face. "Sure," I eventually agreed. "That sounds fun."

"Yay! I'll just tell him really quick, and then you can come and hang out with us for the rest of the day!" Milan bounced.

"I can't wait," I smiled.

Milan ran across the train aisle and whispered a few things to Connor, who nodded. "Okay..." I heard him whisper.

"Yay!" Milan cheered. The train screeched to a stop, so Milan ran across the aisle and grabbed my hand. "Come on, Celosia! Let's go!"

//February 23, 2030. Connor's House, 3:51 PM//

Connor's house was cool. It was filled with a bunch of cool stuff, which I assumed he had gotten from his shop (Con and Pawn, I think it is). I looked around in shock. I hadn't seen things this amazing ever! Not even in the Ka-

I never got to finish my thought, as the door was flung open. Vesgate came walking in. "Guys!"

"What is it?" Connor asked, hostility making him sound darker than usual.

"The investigation... I found something out!" Vesgate cried. He pulled out a file from inside of his coat and handed it over to me, mainly since I was closer than the others.

"What is this about?" I questioned as I flipped the beige folder open. "It looks pretty important..."

"I got my hands on the file about the Kuranin victims, and you'll never guess what the first page says!!" Vesgate exclaimed.

I began scanning through the first page, though Connor snatched it from me and began to read himself. I didn't see anything of interest before it was taken, so I growled at Connor for a few seconds until he gasped.

"I guess you saw what I did," Vesgate frowned.

"What did you find?!" Milan cried, jumping up and down in an attempt to see what was written on the paper.

"One of the bodies didn't have fingerprints," Vesgate replied. "Only six of the bodies, seven if you want to include Uccello, had prints. The final body didn't."

"Does the file say which one it is?!" I yelled.

Vesgate shook his head. "No. Apparently, that's classified information. If we can get the group back together by tomorrow, we can see which body doesn't have prints and figure out why," he told us.

"Or... I have an even better idea," Connor smirked.

"What is it?" I asked.

"To show that they can't carry on this investigation without us, let's investigate this on our own. We can go to those Interpol nerds with the results and get them to let us back onto the case," Connor told us.

"That... That might actually work," I agreed. "There are eight bodies and four of us... So all of us need to check out two bodies. Who are we all going to take on?"

"Milan can't do that, so let's divide into groups of two," Connor said. "Milan and I can do Quell, the two Selfs, and Lawton. You guys get Uccello, Tsumi, June, and Lane."

"Good idea," Vesgate agreed. "Where are we meeting tomorrow?"

"The Self house. We can divide from there. After one of us figures out which body it is, we can call the other group and meet up to report our findings," I cut in.

"This is great! The group will be back together before we know it!" Milan exclaimed, throwing her arms in the air out of excitement.

I nodded. "Just you wait, guys. We'll show those Interpol suckers who the real investigators around here are," I smirked. "We'll send them running for their money."
