Milan was rather tearful when she dragged me away from the group. Her eyes were red and getting more and more puffy. I frowned when I saw her in this condition. "Are you okay, Milan?" I asked.

"Well... I want to talk to you about... Ms. August and... A few other things," she said simply.

"What do you mean?" I questioned. "Judging by your tone... It sounds pretty serious..."

"I'm afraid that... Now that Ms. August is back... You'll start liking her more than me," Milan admitted, looking up at me tearfully. "And I don't want that! I thought that you actually liked me after all that has been going on, but if you don't, then...!"

I placed a finger on her lips. "Quiet," I demanded of her.

"What is it?" Milan asked, despite my command of silence.

"I want to tell you that... Your worries are unfounded," I assured her.

"What do you mean? I think that they make sense..." Milan admitted.

"Well, they really don't. Even if June is back, I still like you just the same. I look up to you a lot. You've been through so much and you can still find it in your heart to be strong," I told her.

"You mean it?" Milan asked, her eyes lighting up. "I didn't think that you really thought of me that way... It means a lot. I thought that everybody thought of me as just another annoying little kid who needs to shut up."

"You've never been that way to me, and you never will be," I told her. I crouched down to her level and brushed my hand down her cheek. "You're perfect just the way you are, Milan. Don't ever change."

Milan took my hand in hers and smiled. She rubbed her eyes with her free hand. "Thank you so much, Connor..."

"You said that there was something else you wanted to discuss?" I said, stroking her gently.

"Well... It's kind of embarrassing... I don't really know how to say it, but... I want you to help me out with something..." Milan told me, looking down.

I tried to meet her eyes, but her gaze kept dodging mine. "I don't mind embarrassing. Just tell me what's up," I told her.

Milan nodded. "Well... I guess that part of me is just hoping a little bit that you'll want to adopt me. I don't want to go to an orphanage. I don't have any family left, and... I don't want to be alone!" Milan cried. She ran at me, her arms wrapping around me.

I hugged her back. "Hey... It's okay, Milan... No worries..." I whispered to her, hoping to soothe her crying. She had begun sobbing again after she started to hug me..

"But what if I get sent away?! I might get taken into another city where I can't see you guys anymore! I don't want that to happen!!" Milan wailed, attaching herself to me even more so than before.

"I won't let you get sent away, Milan. You're just fine in this city, so you aren't going to be leaving anytime soon, okay?" I assured her.

"Well... Even so... I might end up in an orphanage. What if that happens? It seems like kids there are really mean... I've passed a few on the streets and... They always glare at me like I did something wrong..." Milan murmured.

"I know that it seems scary, but you won't have to deal with it," I told her next.

"I won't?" Milan asked, taken aback by my choice of words. "What do you mean by that? I don't understand..."

"I'm saying that you won't be going to an orphanage," I told her.

"How can you be so sure? Anything can happen," Milan frowned. I noticed her gulp.

"Because I'm going to be taking you in," I said, a smile growing on my lips. I had been trying to hide that fact this entire conversation, and I think I did it pretty well. Who would have guessed that owning a con shop would help out this much?"

"Really?!" Milan exclaimed. "You're being serious?!"

I nodded. "Why would I lie about this? That sort of joke is rather cruel, don't you agree?" I said.

"I guess so," Milan agreed, smiling still. "But why do you want to adopt me?"

"I don't want somebody like you, such a good little kid, ending up in an orphanage. I know that life will be rough there, so why not give you a much less rough life with me?" I explained to her. "Besides... I've enjoyed our time together a lot more than I let on."

"You mean it?" Milan asked.

"Yeah," I assured her, running a hand through her hair. It was really smooth... "Now, there's a much more important question than that proposition."

"There is?" Milan questioned. "What is it? I thought that was the biggest part."

"Do you accept my offer?" I asked.

Milan stared at me for a few seconds, as if dumbfounded that I had even asked. My assumption was correct, as she ran into a hug with me. "Of course I accept! I really like being around you, too! You have no idea how excited I am about this!!"

"I think I'm starting to understand," I said, hugging  her a little bit tighter. "And I'm glad you accepted. I don't want your life to go to waste on a crummy existence. You don't deserve that."

"Thanks..." Milan whispered, blushing ever so slightly. I fall more and more in love with her as the time goes by...

Like... Father daughter relationship. Don't get any ideas.

"Now, what were you going to ask me? You seemed pretty serious about it," I said.

Milan shook her head with a wide smile. "It's nothing we haven't already covered," she assured me.

I smiled and ruffled her hair. "That's a good thing. Now, let's go. I have to tell June and Victor the good news. We officially have a new cute little girl in the family."

Milan giggled as she took my hand, dragging me out to June. I was so happy today had turned out so well...
