"Tell us everything you can about the Kuranin," Joe instructed.
"Okay... They came together about a month ago. They roped me into their plan as a scapegoat, because they say that if I don't do what they say, they'll kill me," Ms. Farrell whispered. She sniffled and rubbed her eyes. "I didn't want to do this, but they didn't give me a choice!"
"Have you killed anybody since you began to work with them?' I asked.
Ms. Farrell shook her head. "No..."
"Don't lie to us," Joe growled, narrowing her eyes.
"O-okay!! I did kill one person!!" Ms. Farrell cried, beginning to cry more openly. "I-I had to kill Ms. August or they would hurt me!!"
"So you did kill somebody!!" Joe yelled. "Tell us who committed the other murders out of your stupid group!!"
"G-G-Giuseppe killed Quell and the two Selfs... Vil did Tsumi and Lane... And then Ness killed Uccello... I think... I don't really know who killed her since none of them will tell me who did her in..." Ms. Farrell told us. "P-please don't kill me for doing all of this! I didn't mean to do all of this!! They made meeeeeee!!"
"Calm down and keep talking. Is there anything else that you can tell us about the culprits?" I asked of her.
"Well... I can't say much more without them getting really mad... But... I'm sure that I can think of some workaround..." Ms. Farrell said.
"M?"
Joe and I looked up to see D standing over us. She was holding a file. She handed me the folder and I began to flick through it. "This is the file about the Kuranin victims. One of them doesn't have fingerprints for whatever reason, and we think that it may be related to the case," D told us.
"Burns take away fingerprints. Did any of the victims suffer from some sort of burn mark that could cause lack of fingerprints?" I asked.
D shook her head. "Fire wasn't even loosely involved in any of the crimes. There must be some other reason for one of the victims not having any prints," she said.
"Which victims were identified with fingerprints and which were identified by other means?" Joe questioned.
"Lane, August, Quell, and both of the Selfs were identified by other means. The others, meaning Tsumi and Lawton were fingerprinted," D explained.
"Farrell!" Joe yelled.
Ms. Farrell squeaked in shock and tried to run away. "Y-y-yes?!" Ms. Farrell stammered, realizing that there wasn't any sort of escape at this point.
"Do you know anything about why one of the victims wouldn't have any fingerprints?!" Joe asked angrily.
Ms. Farrell shook her head violently. "I don't know a thing about that! It must be something involved with one of the others' killings!!" Ms. Farrell exclaimed. "C-can you leave me alone now?!"
"No! You could be involved in something like this! Don't lie to us!" Joe shouted. "Tell us everything you know, because if you don't we'll be sure your verdict in court is as harsh as it gets: the death penalty."
Ms. Farrell screamed, making me cover my eardrums. I'm pretty sure I heard Griffin scream over it in the distance, though I can't really say for sure. "O-okay! I'll talk!"
"Good," Joe smirked. "What do you know about a victim not having fingerprints?"
"You've been messing up this case by not having all of the victims fingerprinted! I'm not sure who found it out, but they must be pretty bad at their job if they aren't telling you!" Ms. Farrell shouted.
"A budding forensic scientist by the name of Clarith Blake did the testing for us. She sent us in seven sets of fingerprints, not eight. One of the victims didn't have prints, though she couldn't tell us which one it was," D explained.
"Why can't she tell us?!" Joe roared.
"Ms. Blake suffers from colorblindness, and thus couldn't tell if the victims had prints or not because of the system that we use," D continued. "We should really update it so we don't have any other issues like this..."
"I'll tell the bumbling idiots down at the precinct to fix that," Joe told himself in a whisper. "Anyways, when can we have all of the victims fingerprinted to see which one doesn't have prints?"
"Tomorrow is the soonest. The only high quality forensic scientists aren't available yet due to working on other cases," I told Joe. "I'll be sure to call the people down at the precinct and have one of them put a good person on it tomorrow."
"Just be sure it isn't Blake. We can't have her screwing up our investigation again," Joe instructed of me.
I saluted to him. "Yes, sir!"
"I can hear Griffin screaming again in the other room. I'm going to go talk to him," D said. "If you two will excuse me..."
D walked out of the room, so Joe and I turned back to Ms. Farrell. "She's scary..."
"You get used to her after a while," I told her.
"Come on, Dr-N," Joe said, rising to his feet.
"Where are we going?" I asked, following his lead out of the room and down to our office.
"To work something out about this Blake character. Maybe to address the precinct about their faulty system and how Q could do better in his sleep," Joe muttered, shaking his head.
"Should we call Q and get him on it?" I asked.
Joe nodded. "Let's send him out for tomorrow's field work. I bet he could handle something as simple as fingerprinting a body or eight."
