Mondays kinda suck

It had reached the day of week I most dreaded. Monday. Not because it was the first day of the week, after the weekend had ended, but because it was the day that had my scheduled shrink visit.

I used to enjoy Mondays, especially now that I was an adult who didn't have a Monday job or restraints from education. Mondays for me normally were just the third day of the weekend. Ever since I started going to see a doctor about my memory loss, that all changed.

"Come on in."

I looked away from the entrance doors, where I was expecting Cal to walk in. He must be running late.

My shrink smiled at me from the open door.

"Is Cal not here today?" She asked as I stood up, glancing at my phone. He hadn't texted me to say anything.

I shook my head, already feeling less comfortable. Cal had always come with me to these sessions. Since conning out of the coma, I had been required to come to this dreaded place of harrowing white walls and dull paintings bought from charity fairs. I didn't like being looked at like there was something wrong with me, the pity in people's eyes as I entered and left the building. Everyone thought that you only went to see shrinks if you had problems. Only Cal knew I was coming here, and Rory of course. The pair had supported the doctors' recommendation. Memory therapy, it was called. My lack of memory from certain periods of time was terrifying, and I wasn't sure anymore if new people I was meeting were old people I had no memory of.

"Well, we will just start where we left of last week then."

I nodded, following the doctor into the small confined room.

"Phone here." She said once I was seated in the hard black chair, her hand out. Doctor Clearwater liked to remove any distractions from me so that I could focus on the tasks she sets me.

After handing her my phone, I felt even more disconnected. Shivering slightly, I rubbed at my arms. I wish Cal were here. His quiet presence in the corner of the room always made me feel at ease.

"Lucy, I need you to concentrate now." Dr. Clearwater snapped, pulling me back to reality. Someone was cranky this morning.

I sighed, turning my full attention back to her. Without the moral support Cal gave me, this session was going to be much harder.

After about 35 minutes of torture, the phone on the doctors' perfectly organized desk began to shrill. She made a pained expression, before excusing herself to answer the call. She picked up the phone with her back to me, one hand leaning on the dark oak desk. I looked back down to the iPad before me. We were looking at my Facebook, at the profile pictures of people I had befriended. I knew some of them, but the other faces I couldn't recall. It was as if they were standing behind a semi transparent curtain, taunting me. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't pull the curtain aside.

"Yes, send him up." Dr. Clearwater replied into the phone. My head shot up to look at her for answers. Was Cal here? Had he finally arrived?

"He can just wait outside." Dr. Clearwater added.

"Thank you." She ended the call, turning back to me.

"Is Cal here?" I added eagerly.

Dr. Clearwater shook her head, sitting back down opposite me.

"Another young man called Simon is here."

My eyes widened at her words. What was he doing here? Why had he come? What must he think of me? Where was Cal? My flurry of questions came down to a single, shocked word.
