So, here I was outside the fanciest restaurant I had ever laid my eyes on.
Towering glass windows with streetlights and passing cars shimmering off the glass like a colorful universe of stars soared into the sky, my neck craning to take in the huge face of the building.
I tried to use the beauty of the place to distract my wild heartbeat as I saw Simon and Josh approaching, wind tugging at their fancy suits. The pair sure could get dressed up when they needed to.
"Hey guys." I waved half-heartedly, nervous to finally see the boys.
Taking Simons previous words to heart, I decided to pretend that what happened between us didn't actually happen. It was hard at first, but after an hour of convincing myself in the mirror, I was comfortable enough to even text my blonde friend.
Although it made my heart break slightly, if Simon wanted to blow it over, I would let that happen for him.
Something was definitely up with Simon. I had first noticed it when he didn't reply to my texts. His phone was usually attached to his arm, so for him to not reply quickly was extremely unusual. Perhaps he was still pissed about the whole Jackson incident. Maybe he was more affected by the kiss than he let on.
I wish someone had created a guide book on how to deduce the inner workings of the male mind. I bet that would spring right into the bestsellers hall of fame.
Anyhow, I had been left to organize the meet up with Josh, who was far less reliable with his phone. There would be more chance of him actually releasing Illuminate than sending a reply to a text within the same week.
Now, seeing the boys, across the busy road, only Josh waved back at me happily, barely visible over the rumbling traffic. Simon was looking darkly at the ground, either un-aware I was waiting opposite them, or purposely ignoring me. What had gotten into him?
"You guys look awesome!" I complemented as they got closer, the light from the restaurant illuminating them. Both boys were wearing tuxedo suits, and I had to admit Simon looked mighty fine in his tight fitting suit, despite his obvious mood. I couldn't stop myself, as my gaze drew to his lips. They were drawn into a thin line, his jaw tight. I swallowed nervously, remembering what his lips felt like on mine.
"Rather dapper, I'd say." Josh laughed, with a raised eyebrow.
His laugh was cautious, and he glanced at Simon. Okay, something was definitely wrong.
" This looks fancy." I said, breaking the highly-strung silence that followed. I was in desperate need of that inexistent handbook.
" I feel under-dressed." I added, looking down at my black jumpsuit and heeled sandals. Josh and Simon looked much better, more fancy, in the suits they had worn to the movie premier.
" You look fine, Luce." Josh said, holding the doors open for me. I followed him in, Simon at my heels. As I passed Josh, I caught a hint of alcohol. Had the pair been drinking at the premier? I knew both weren't the biggest drinkers, and I wasn't entirely sure how each of them acted when intoxicated.
I guess I was about to find out.
The stares of other people in the restaurant burned into the back of my head. I was well out of my leguae in this place. When I covered my arms with my hands as people stared at me, diamonds and shiny watches flashing under the low lights.
We sat down in a corner booth, the lights low and cold. I shivered, Simon's mood and the atmosphere of the fancy restaurant putting me off. My already bad day was starting to spiral even further down hill, and it was making me sick in the stomach.
