It had been a whole month since the shooting.
I hadn't made a video in that time, instead dedicating myself to my work. I'd picked up multiple shifts at the pool, working whenever I could to distract myself from that day. I'd even had to re start my dreaded visits to the shrink.
Simon and Tobi had handled it far better, only taking a short break from videos to recover from the shock. I knew I worried my friends. I hadn't been myself lately, fear constantly nagging at my heels.
Not only did her lifeless eyes haunt me, but the girls words scared me even more.
She won't stop.
Had she been shot because she was going to tell us something? We hadn't talked about it since it had happened, but I felt like the other two were speculating, Simon especially.
He was spending hours in contact with some unknown man, and I'd overheard enough to know he was trying to investigate people, without the help of the police. But why would Simon need to do such a thing?
The police were investigating, and there had been rumors that even the British intelligence had gotten involved.
The world of social media had gone nuts over the whole incident. We'd managed to keep the stabbing on the low key, but the public shooting had rocked the YouTube community.
This resulted in more conspiracy theories than the whole Marina Joyce situation.
Deji somehow managed to make me laugh a little when he made a video about how the Sidemen were fighting with the Illuminati against blood sucking aliens from Mars.
Talk about imagination.
"Luce, I think we need a distraction." Simon declared, bursting into my room. I jolted, almost knocking my laptop of my desk. I saw Simons eyes flick to my screen, an eyebrow raising slightly. I rolled my eyes before shutting the lid down. So what if I liked watching 'My Strange Addiction' for hours on end? It was helping me to recuperate.
"Ever heard-"
"Of knocking?" Simon completed my sentence with a cheeky smirk.
"Yes, I have-"
"Its just a skill you're yet to develop?" I cut.
Simon grinned at me, before taking a seat on the edge of my unmade bed.
"Well, I'm heading round to Cal's, and then we're taking a train to Brighton."
Brighton? Why would they want to go to Brighton?
"We're going to see a small freestyle YouTuber, Ian." It was as if he'd read my thoughts.
"And?" I asked, wondering where Simon was going. I low key wanted to get back to 'my strange addiction'. I had been cringing through an hour of it, and I was just getting into an episode about a man who was in a relationship with 15 blow up animals. Riveting stuff.
"I thought maybe you'd want to come – you know get out of the inner city for a while?" Simon offered. I was nodding before he'd even finished, a grin spreading over my face.
I wanted nothing but to leave the hectic nature of central London. I'd pick a day with two of my favourite people in the world over a confused man in a tangled romance with inflatable objects any day.
"When do we leave?"
~
The soft, sweet melody of the cabs music lulled the three of us into a comfortable quiet. It was strange to be sitting with these too in silence. It was almost unnerving.
