| Wild - Troye Sivan |
Simon:
Vik drove like an absolute maniac, ruthlessly cutting people of as he wove through the heavy traffic. He actually seemed to be enjoying it, which was surprising. Vik never did anything that would get him on the wrong side of the law. He almost cried after realising he'd forgotten to pay for a drink at a restaurant before forcing us to drive three hours back to the place to apologise.
I checked the near carnage Vik had caused behind us in the latest red light running. A blue Sudan along with a black cab had almost collided, the drivers making gestures at each other from the safety of their cars.
"Vik, I believe they have traffic lights for a reason."
Luce! I looked down to my lap where Lucy's head lay. She had one eye open as she peered around the car.
"She's awake!" Harry cried, ripping his seatbelt off.
"Put your seatbelt on, I don't want to drop two of my friends into the hospital." Vik commanded, pushing Harry back into his seat.
"Hi." I said, smiling down at Lucy.
"Hi." She replied with a wince. I could faintly see blue veins under her skin as she moved in an attempt to get more comfortable. She was abnormally pale. Should I be worried?
"Luce, you really shouldn't be moving."
"Ooooohhhh, doctor Simon eh?" She joked. I rolled my eyes at her. I was trying to be serious in this very serious situation.
"You've been stabbed Luce!" I exclaimed as she rolled slightly, lifting her injured hip up.
"Mr. Obvious too?" I loved Lucy's sarcasm, and it was good to have her back in the world of the conscious, but surely she should be more worried about the fact she got stabbed?
"Lucy this isn't a laughing manner." Harry grumbled.
"Stupid cows." I barely caught his angry words as he glared out of the window.
"Did you ever think she might have been trying to protect you?" Lucy asked gently, ever patient with the angry Harry.
"By hurting you?" Harry demanded from the front seat. He spun round to face us, Vik glancing at him before returning his attention to the road.
"You do realize your fans would kill for you?" Lucy stiffened as I moved slightly.
"Sorry," I whispered, Lucy grimacing up at me from my lap.
"It's okay." She mumbled back, her pupils distant as she struggled to stay awake.
"It's not! You've been bloody stabbed!" Harry was yelling again.
"Harry! Stop stressing Lucy out!" Vik snapped, cutting through yet another red traffic light.
"Hang in there." I said; brushing my fingers over Lucy's hair in what I hoped was a soothing manner.
"Si, any other time I wouldn't mind you doing that." Lucy started. I froze. Was I doing something that hurt her?
"But, seeing my head hit the concrete less than two hours ago....." I immediately pulled my hand away, shocked I hadn't realized that earlier. Of course she would have a sore head.
Instead, Lucy offered me one of her small hands. I hesitated, my own hands covered in her dried blood. Lucy didn't seem to mind that as I gently took her offered hand, her fingers immediately squeezing against mine. She must've been in a lot of pain to be able to squish my fingers that hard.
"We're going to the hospital right?" Lucy asked through gritted teeth.
"We'll be there soon!" Vik promised as he ran through a light on the verge of going from orange to red. That was almost five now!
"I'm glad you guys have some sense." Lucy mumbled. Vik and I shared a look in the rear view mirror, something that didn't go unnoticed by Harry.
"Oh, come on!" He cried, throwing his hands in the air.
"VIK WATCH OUT!" Harry suddenly screamed as a shiny black audi came pelting right for us. Lucy's grip on my hand grew tighter as Vik hit the accelerator, skidding through the intersection to avoid the red car. Did he think he was in Fast and Furious? I'd asked him to drive fast, but not at the expense of everyone's lives!
"Vik what the fuck!?" Harry demanded, hyperventilating.
"I feel like a superhero." Vik replied, his eyes wild.
" Shit, please don't cry! I'll try to drive better now!" Vik added after glancing at Lucy in the mirror. I looked down at her, my heart slowly dragging back to normal speed. Sure enough, silent tears were tracking down Lucy's pale face.
" Hey, Luce, Luce." I whispered, squeezing her hand to get her attention. The look in her eyes made me stop in my tracks. She looked scared. Terrified. I had to distract her. I had to let her know she was going to be fine.
"Luce, do you remember when I gave you a piggy back?"
" That time I got food poisoning?"
" Yep?"
"What a day that was." Lucy giggled before wincing.
"No, anyway, remember what you said to me?"
"Simon, I say many things to you."
"You said I don't have to look over my shoulder because you had my back"
"Ooohhh, did you right that down? That's pretty good." Lucy joked.
I face palmed, shaking my head.
"Now, I'm going to do the same, alright?" I said seriously, reappearing from behind my hand. Lucy didn't say anything, just looked up at me with an expression I couldn't quite read.
For someone who had just been stabbed, she was oddly calm. I guess she was just used to traumatic events now. Ever since she had swept into our lives, she was constantly getting hurt. Her clumsy tendencies weren't really helping, but I couldn't help but feel guilty for what had happened to her. If we hadn't made Harry fall into the river, Lucy wouldn't have been in a coma. If we hadn't exposed Lucy, associated ourselves with her, she wouldn't be bleeding in my lap. I felt incredibly small and insignificant. Like there was nothing I could do. I was completely helpless and at the mercy of the wide world. Maybe if I had been there, I could've somehow stopped her getting stabbed. I'd made a promise to Lucy's parents to keep her safe, but things well out of my control kept on happening. The guilt of letting down Lucy's parents, but also Lucy herself made my shoulders slump.
"Don't frown Simon, you suit a smile."
Lucy's sweet voice pulled me from my thoughts. I smiled half heartedly down at her, wondering how I had been blessed with the red head.
"You guys are too cute." Vik commented from the front seat.
I didn't miss the slight blush that swept across Lucy's freckled cheeks as Vik winked at me in the rear view mirror. Even though she was literally bleeding out, she still managed to look cute to me. Vik continued to wiggle his thick eyebrows at me, insinuating many a great things.
Harry noticed this, of course.
"Eyes on the road you idiot!"
