I glared at the door as the knocker rattled, the shadow of a person hunched over against the howling wind. I couldn't even remember the name of the girl I had hired. She had better have good news for me.
I wrapped my silky black robe around my body, flicking the lights back on. After a second thought, I shut down my computer. This girl was not going to see any more of my plans. She would get her money, and then leave. No strings, no contracts.
Some of my other employees had already bugged the girls house, and I would have someone following her for a few weeks, so if she spilled anything I would know. And respond immediately, with lethal precision.
" Is it done?" I hissed, ripping the door open. The chilling wind whipped at my clothes as the shivering girl walked into the dank house. I slammed the door behind her, folding my arms.
"Well?" I snapped irritably. She had the perfect opportunity to take Lucy out, when she had no one with her to protect her.
"No, miss, it is not done." The girl replied, her voice shaking in fear. Anger welled inside of me, boiling through my veins. I pulled myself up to my full height, dominant over the cowering girl.
"How?" I demanded, nostrils flaring.
"She was with Harry, he, he stopped me." She stuttered, not meeting my furious gaze.
" Get out of my sight. If you breathe a single word of this to anyone, I will find you." I growled, stalking towards the terrified girl.
"I'm sorry, can I at-"
"GET OUT!" I screamed, pointing at the door. The girl let out a frightened squeak before bolting to the door, disappearing into the roaring storm.
Frustrated, I smashed a vase of its shelf, the glass splintering over the floor like a thousand stars.
I screamed at the storm, letting out my anger. She had got away.
"Calm yourself." I snapped to the crackling air. There would always be other opportunities. I would have my way; my prize was driving me to new heights. Once Lucy was out of the way, the world was mine.
It had to be done soon though. Her popularity was growing; so more people knew what she looked like. More people cared. But worse, I could see her relationships blooming. She was getting in the way, and I had to be rid of her.
I needed to send in a professional. Someone who knew how to play on peoples emotions. I'd kept him up my sleeve for a while now, but it seemed I needed him now to stop their relationship before it even started. She seemed like the girl who would fall for anything that gave her a second glance.
I hurriedly made a few calls, my plan falling into place.
Lucy would never see the storm coming. The storm that would sweep her away.
The notification ding of an incoming email dragged me back to my laptop. I opened the computer, clicking on the email. A smirk found its way onto my face as I looked at the image attached to the bottom of the email. I was no good at Photoshop jobs, but this person had out done themselves, well and truly. This picture could start a flash fire which would destroy her relationships with all the boys. I just needed my latest recruit to play his part, and wait for the perfect moment to strike.
My eyes rose to look at the large picture that adorned the opposite wall. A single, warm yellow light flickered over the image, bringing an eerie sense of movement to the face.
Crystal blue eyes, a dimpled grin, and soft blonde hair stared back at me. I gently touched the image, remembering what it felt like to be in love with this man. To be loved in return by him.
"We will be together again." I whispered, my voice dripping with longing.
I just had to get rid of her.
Growling, I grabbed the blunt knife from where it had been wedged in the wooden desk in my last fit of rage, and tossed it at the opposite wall. It landed with a dull thump right between Lucy's eyes. While this released some of my anger, it was nowhere near as good as the real thing. Brows furrowed in anger, I ripped the knife from the photo, only to slash at it again. The tattered image of her face still grinned at me. Maniacal, I destroyed the image with multiple cuts till it fell to the floor in tatters. Breathing heavily, I grinned at the mess at my feet.
I would wait for the perfect moment to release the picture, the perfect moment to strike.
Oh, this was going to give me great pleasure. Great pleasure indeed.
