Hit and miss

Sometimes I wished things hadn't gone wrong between us. Hours spent looking at pictures, wondering what I had done. It took me a while to realize he was in denial, he was blinded and deaf to the truth. I know we were meant to be together. Destiny.

Yes, that was what it was. Our souls were destined to be together, as one.

Why could he not understand such a simple thing? Such a primal need? I still remember the day he shrugged me off, the day he couldn't acknowledge my being. It still felt as if I had been stabbed with lightning through my very heart.

The new girl wasn't making things any easier. Right when I thought I had the strength to get back to him, she ruined it.

Bitch.

My malice stained thoughts were rudely interrupted by the shrill tone of my phone ringing. It was my disposable phone; the phone only people I hired had the number for. Grinning in excitement, I grabbed the phone from its allocated slot beside my computer. People knew to only call me if they had good news, so this unexpected call was uplifting.

It wasn't till I looked at the screen that my momentary happiness turned sour on my tongue. It was one of my snipers.

Growling, I lurked behind my curtains, peering out into the still streets.

"What." I snapped, answering the call.

"I've eliminated the girl."

My eyes widened. Did he possibly mean her? The one who was stealing Simon from me?

"The one who failed to do her part." The sniper added. His breathing sounded labored, as if he had been running from somewhere.

"What?" I demanded, confused. Why did he kill her? The only reason he would do such a thing was if...

"She was talking to Simon and the New Zealand girl on a double decker bus."

"Where?"

"Downtown London."

"Why didn't you just take her out?" I growled into the phone. How could he have missed such a perfect opportunity to get rid of the pestering New Zealand girl? Now the girl I'd hired earlier on was dead, so I couldn't find out how much she had spilled. I had no way of knowing what Simon knew. And worse yet, she was still alive. If I had been the one there with the weapon, I would've eliminated her without a second thought.

"She was standing right in front of him. If I'd shot her, your precious man would be dead too." The snipers voice was edged with anger. So that was why he hadn't rung with good news.

"You had better have covered your tracks. I wont have this lead back to me." I snapped angrily. How could he have messed up so much?

"Of course I covered my tracks." The sniper spat. "I've killed far more important people, dealt with situations far worse than your petty desires."

He thought I was being petty? He thought I was being petty? I became impossibly angrier at the thought. How dare he? I was paying this man handsomely to carry out a task, not voice his opinion of me.

"Don't think I don't have anyone watching you." I hissed venomously.

"You're insane. I'm done." The sniper snapped back, ending the call.

He was done was he? I smirked at the thought. Did he really think he could back out of all of this?

Letting the curtain fall back into place, I scrolled through the limited contacts on my phone till I found the number I was looking for.

Calmly, with a leer on my lips, I pressed call.

Three tones later, the person picked up. He didn't say anything, awaiting my instructions.

"I need you to do some cleaning up."
