Jackson stumbled back in shock, cupping his clearly broken nose. Blood was spurting from it, staining his crisp white shirt. Pain shot through my knuckles, but I ignored it as I glared at Jackson. He backed away, stumbling down the stairs and back into the house.
"Holy shit, Lucy!" Cal exclaimed from behind me, shock evident in his voice.
" Did you really just?"
I shook my sore hand, grimacing. Why had I just done that? I had assaulted him!
"You okay?" Cal asked gently, turning my body to face him. I stared at him with wide eyes, my mind barely keeping up with how fast the situation had gone by.
"He... he.." I stuttered, glancing nervously over my shoulder.
"He didn't hurt you did he?"
I shook my head as silent tears spilled over my cheeks, and Cal pulled me into his chest. I could hear his fast heartbeat as he rubbed soothing circles into my back.
"He wouldn't listen to me. I said stop, he didn't listen. I thought he was going to, to do bad things. But he threatened me – he told me I had to stay away from Simon." I babbled, holding tightly onto Cal.
"Why would he threaten you?" Cal inquired.
"I don't know, Cal." I admitted.
I never wanted to feel like that again. Weak. Out of control. Most of all, I never wanted to see Jackson again.
"I'll kill that boy if he touches you again." Cal promised.
"Not if I beat you too it." I sniffed.
"Do you want to go home?" Cal asked, looking down at me. I nodded, rubbing at my eyes. I had just assaulted someone. The weight of my actions was suddenly crushing down on me. I had assaulted someone.
"Come on, I'll tell Josh to get the car, and then we need to get the others."
"Cal, I can't go back out there like this." I mumbled, my breaths shaky as I tried to calm myself down.
Cal rubbed the back of his head, apparently struggling to understand. He was drunk, after all.
"Hey Cal!" The back door shot open, revealing JJ.
"Did you see Jacksons face? Did you beat him up bro?" He yelled, before stopping. JJ's wide eyes went between Cal, the passed out Joe and I.
"What's going on?" He asked in confusion.
"Can you get the others man?" Cal asked as I slowly sunk to the ground, my back once more against the cool wall.
"Now Jide!!" Cal shouted, crouching down next to me.
I was struggling to focus on anything other than the back of my knuckles. I didn't realize how fast they bruised. How they actually bled, small splits in the skin making my normally steady stomach churn. Weird how I could stand the sight of others blood, but not my own.
Cal's voice mingled with the thumping music, time disappearing into the mêlée.
"Luce?! What happened?" A British voice cut through the chaos. Simon had appeared before me, his blue eyes crinkled in concern. He stooped to my level, his hands on my shoulders. My vision was going in and out of focus, and Simon seemed distant.
"Luce!" Simon said, shaking my shoulders. I snapped out of my revere, and looked into his worried blue eyes.
"What is going on?" He demanded, his eyes searching mine. They were startlingly clear, a glowing blue in the dark night. Despite everything that had just happening, the commotion in the night, I found this sight the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. Those blue eyes would be my ending.
"We'll explain later, right now we need to get her back to the apartment." Cal said, appearing beside us. Simon looked un impressed, reading me like an open book. He didn't argue, however, and moved to my side, one of his hands on my back. It took a combined effort of Simon and I to get me to my feet, my legs quivering from the mixture of shock, fatigue and inebriation.
Simons touch on body was instantly soothing, calming my taut nerves.
Feeling as thought I was watching from outside of my body, we made it to outside in slow motion, the world swirling around us. I could see confusion in party goers of our sudden departure, curious eyes following our movement. After what felt like an age, we finally exited the apartment, only to stop outside the place as Cal answered his phone.
"Josh will be back with the car in a minute or so." He said, pushing the door shut behind us. I gulped, stepping away from Simons touch. Shock was still running through my body. I had just assaulted someone. Would I get charged? What happened to Joe?
"Is Joe okay?" I mumbled.
"Last I saw he was being carried to a bed." Tobi answered.
"Luce, what happened back there?" He added, throwing his head back towards the door to the flat.
"Some idiot was being a complete tosser." Cal growled, glowering at the door.
I looked at my feet; thankful he hadn't said what Jackson had done. Or tried to do.
"She did a fairly decent punch though." Cal added.
"Remind me not to get on your bad side." Harry mused, holding his hand out for a high five. I slapped his hand, grimacing when pain shot through the back of my hand.
"Wait, what happened to your hand?" Simon demanded, snatching it.
"What is this?" He asked angrily. I looked down at my hand, my stomach flipping once more. The skin on the back of my knuckles was even more bruised than before, and three of the knuckles had split skin wider, making a mess of the back of my hand. Harry pulled out a tissue, from his pocket, offering it to Simon. Simon snatched the offered tissue and began wiping at my hand.
"This looks bad." He said, his voice sounding nowhere as angry as what his eyes were conveying.
"I'm fine." I said, pulling my arm back from Simon, avoiding his probing eyes.
"We'll get it properly cleaned up when we get back to the hotel." Tobi said, glancing at my arm. He rubbed his hand across his jaw, his eyes distant. He was deep in thought.
"What did he do to deserve that punch?" JJ piped up, grinning slightly.
I shook my head at Cal. Don't say. Please don't say. If Simon knew Jackson had got to me once more, he would loose it. I knew I should have told him.
"It was Jackson." Cal spat angrily. I groaned when he said, it, and he looked immediately regretful.
" You didn't want them to know?" He asked as I stole a glance at Simon. He looked ready to murder a certain person. This was why I didn't want them to know.
I nodded, and looked at my converse shoes again. Blood had splattered on them, glistening at me in the low light.
"Well, then he bloody well deserved it." JJ said angrily, all traces of humor gone.
"No one can do that to my friend" He said, pulling me into a protective hug. I awkwardly patted him on the back, still not looking at the groups' faces. I must embarrass them. I wasn't going to look at Simon again, too worried about what he might think. I had just shown a side to me I didn't even know I had, a side I was never going to be proud of, a side I wish had never appeared.
"Josh's here." Cal announced, lowering his phone from his ear.
"Let's go then." Tobi said, leading the way tothe awaiting car.
