Break Ups And Break Downs

The next few days go by fast and before I knew it it was July 8th. Halo's mom was out of town. It was supposed to rain and storm. That was later tonight though.
Halo and I were texting but she had to go because Derek was there to get her for her big date. I feed the kids lunch.
They eat then I put them down for naps. I do house chores, sweep, vacuum, wash the counters, the table, fold blankets do some laundry and call it quites. The kids get up. I give them a snack.
They sit at the table and eat. I put their dishes in the dishwasher when they are done eating. We spend our day doing nothing it's been a long past few days even though it feels like they were never there.
I decide to put them to bed at 8 since we didn't have to get up early and they took long naps. I get their teeth brushed and pjs on. When they are all ready for bed I lay them down with a movie.
I go into the living room and find a movie to watch. I watch it and when its done I was 9:30 I check on the kids they were both sleeping. I shut their TVs off and shut their doors. I go back to the living room and fold up a blanket and lay it on the back of the couch.
I hear a knock at the door it was nearly 10:00 at night who was at my door? My heart starts to race. I peek through the blinds on the door window it was Halo.
I open the door she was standing on the porch in a blue dress that went to her knees and a white jacket sweater. Her hair was in a ponytail and she was soaked head to toe it was raining pretty bad. Her face was red and mascara was running down her face I can tell she has been crying.
"Whats wrong?" I ask she looks at me and takes a deep breath before spilling.
"Derek took me to his cabin and we had a nice evening when he wanted me to sleep with him. I told him I wasn't ready and I wanted to wait. He said if I loved him I would do it. I told him then I don't love you. He kicked me out and we broke up so you were right okay all he wanted was to get into my pants and because I didn't let him he dropped me. My mom is out of town and you were the closest place I thought of going. So I'm standing here in the middle of the night crying with makeup running down my face soaked with rain because you were right and I didn't listen to you so go ahead and tell me you told me so." She says and she starts crying again.
"You know you're going to get sick if you keep standing out here?" I ask her she looks up at me.
"What no I told you so or you should have listened to me or anything damn it Jace give me something!" She says stomping her foot on the porch. I grab a towel out of the laundry basket on the floor and wrap it around her.
"There I gave you something how lets get you inside. I will get you dry clothes and make you something to drink. While you change and tomorrow if you want to stay here until your mom gets back you can go home and pack."
"You're not going to say it hu?"
"Nope I think you learned your lesson." She comes inside and takes her wet shoes off I put them by the vent to dry.
"Go into the bathroom get undressed dry off. I will bring you some clothes if you need a hair brush there is one in there and if you want a dry hair tie Emily has tons, I don't think she will miss one. We will hang your dress up and you can bring it home tomorrow."
Her dress was dirty covered in dirt, mud, and grass. She nods her head and goes into the bathroom I get her a pair of my shorts and a shirt I knock on the door she opens it wrapped in a towel.
I hand her the clothes she takes them and closes the door. I go in the kitchen and microwave some hot water I then make her some hot chocolate with it. She comes out of the bathroom. I hand her the cup she takes it.
"You can sleep in my bed." I tell her.
"You don't have to." She says sipping her drink.
"Yes I do." I say
"Can I ask a favor of you?"
"Sure."
"Sleep in the bed with me?"
"I can do that."
"Thanks."
"No problem."
"I just can't believe that he did that."
"Well men like him don't change and I said that."
"I know and now I know that but I'm so thankful I have you. You and Zac are proof that there are still good guys out there."
"I watched my father and learned from it Zac just got lucky."
"Maybe he did but I'm the luckiest girl ever to have friends like you and Zac."
"I'm lucky to have you." We hug and sit down on the couch I get her a blanket and she cuddles in it. When 10:30 comes around we go to bed. She gets in and covers up I go pee and get in bed.
We go to sleep almost as soon as we lay down. I have a nightmare though. I wake up in tears I didn't wet the bed thank goodness. I get up and go to the bathroom.
I was still crying when Halo walks in she was sleeping in the clothes I have given her to wear. She comes to the bathroom where I am leaning over the sink in tears. She hugs me from the side as I cry. I couldn't do anything else all I could do was just cry.
"It's okay Jace you're safe and your happy and there is nothing to worry about."
"I know I'm just shaken up and scared when I have night mares like that."
"That's okay you have every right to and you have every right to cry and be upset." I shake my head and stand up straight she gives me a hug I hug her back and clean my face up.
We leave the bathroom and lay back down she moves close to me. She puts her arm over my stomach and cuddles close to my chest I put my arm around her and we fall asleep again.
*Morning*
I wake up and Halo was facing me in bed it was raining hard I could hear it on the roof and see it running down the window through the little opening in my curtains.
I look at Halo again her dirty blond hair is over her shoulder her arm was tucked under her head my heart starts beating fast. I feel funny and it's because she is there she is laying in my bed.
I know she just went through something bad with Derek but I also know I feel funny around her I know what it is and what I feel I just don't want to admit it. I don't wanna say it and I don't wanna break her heart any more. I get out of bed and go to the bathroom.
I hear thunder and lightning. I pee and leave I go to my dresser and grab a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt that had a tiger on it I lay them on the bed for her. I go to the kitchen and pull out eggs, bacon, fruit, and biscuits.
I start the oven and put the biscuits on a pan. I mix 8 eggs in a bowl and put some salt pepper and milk in them. I pour them into a pan and start them on low heat.
I start the bacon on low heat to when the oven preheats I put the biscuits in then Emily gets up she comes out holding her teddy bear.
"Why is there a dress in the bathroom?" She asks me trying to rub sleep out of her eyes.
"It is Halo's."
"Is she here?"
"Yeah."
"Why?"
"Something happened with her last night and she came here."
"Where is she?"
"My room sleeping."
"In your bed?"
"Yeah."
"Why?"
"Why not."
"Okay can I color?"
"Yeah why don't you do it on the kitchen table."
"Okay." She goes to her room to get her crayon box and coloring book. She comes back with them. She puts them on the table and pulls a chair out and climbs into it she sits down on the booster seat and starts coloring. I keep cooking breakfast and Andrew comes out of the hallway holding a transformers blanket. He rubs his eyes.
"I'm hungry Ace." He says.
"I'm making breakfast."
"Okay can I have juice?"
"Yeah." I get him a sippy cup with juice. I get Emily a cup with juice. When I put breakfast on the table Halo walks out her hair on one side of her head. It was in a ponytail though.
"A meal fit for a queen." I say pulling her chair out.
"You're sweet." She says smiling.
"I'm sure I am." I say. She sits down and I give her her food I give the kids their food and I eat mine.
