"Sorry," Ella shrugged.
"Whatever. Just text me when you get home," I smiled and walked over to the bus.
I found a seat in the back. I scooted over to the seat near the window. As the bus began to drive away, I was tapped in the leg.
I jumped, surprised. I sighed when I saw it was Rick.
"Woah. Easy there tiger," he laughed.
"I'm sorry," I scoffed.
"No problem," he said, doing that charming smirk of his again.
Just kill me now.
I had a lot on my mind. Tonight was a full moon, I really was not in the mood to turn. I tried to think about something else, like the fact that my crush just told me to call him. I thought I was doing good, but guess not. He can't even touch me without me going crazy.
"You okay?" He asked, concerned.
"I'm fine, just not a huge fan of full moons I guess you could say," I said, almost instantly regretting saying that. Today on.. How stupid can Elena be?
"Really? I love full moons. You should come to the mountains tonight with me. There is a great view of the wolves," he smiled.
"I'm so sorry. We have a huge family gathering every full moon, part of the reason I don't like it," I smiled and got up. It was my stop.
He nodded and fake smiled.
I probably sound like a huge brat. I can't believe I just blew him off. Why did it have to be on the full moon that he asked me out? I knew I'd have to see him, tonight, sitting all alone and staring at our pack.
There were usually always people watching us from afar, but no one as charming and adorable as Rick. I'm in for a heck of a night today.
"What is it, El?" Lilian greeted my upset face.
"Boy drama," I sighed.
"Cheer up, you have to admit, running around wild and free, wind blowing in your face, it's amazing," her eyes lit up.
"Yeah, it is. Until your crush asks you out and your excuse is that you are turning into a freaking wolf tonight," I plopped down on the couch.
"Oh my god, Elena, I'm sorry. It will be over with before you know it," she replied, referring to our transformations.
"Lily, its not that. Its just, I hate lying to him and you know it," I cupped my face in my hands.
"I know. It always is terribly hard. Which is why us wolves go with our mates," she raised her eyebrows up and down.
Everyone always encouraged me to stick to my mate - someone I didn't even know. It sucks. My whole marriage was already planned out for me. Why couldn't I just be a human, free to marry whoever I want?
"I have not even met him, and you expect me to marry him?" I groaned.
"Elena, he is not a stranger! He is your mate. Your true love that our wolf king has picked out for you. It must be true," Lily said, sarcastically.
"Great acting," I gave her a thumbs up.
"Why, thank you, my dear," she replied, holding her dress and bowing.
"And this is exactly why I love you, Lily," I smiled.
"Elena, you go chase after your dreams, win his heart and it will be our little secret," she always supported me.
"And my mate? The one true love the king picked out for me?" I burst out laughing.
Liliana was like an old, carefree soul that would go along with anything and everything. She was a great friend along with a very supportive human being. She wasn't too sensitive, but she wasn't too serious either. She was just perfect, a perfect friend, a perfect secret keeper, a perfect daughter.. God, I wish I could be like her.
I laughed along with her for over an hour, but time flew by. I could finally be myself. No secrets. No fake love. Just me. Just Elena baker. Is that too much to ask for?
