*beep beep*
Went my alarm at seven AM.

"Ugh!" I groaned and reached for it, pressing snooze.

I spit out the tangled hair that had gotten in my mouth and hid my head under my pillow.

Five minutes later, I peeked from my pillow. No aunt Maria yelling at me to get up? No morning texts from Ella?

I opened my eyes, adjusting to the bright light of my lamp. I sat up and yawned, placing my feet into my cozy, warm cow slippers.

I walked over to the living room, still in my white t-shirt and pink sweatpants.

"Hello? Aunt Maria?" I shouted.
Maria came walking through the door, "hey, birthday girl!"

"Birthday?" I smiled.

"You're 17, sorry, 18, and you still don't remember your own birthday?"

"My eighteenth birthday? Yes!" I smiled.

"You should probably go change," Maria smiled.

"Really, Aunt Maria? Birthday girl still has school?" I whined.

"Yes, girl! Now go change! Go!"

I sighed and ran into my room, shutting the door behind me.

I picked out a black crop top and ripped skinny jeans. I hung them up and started running the water for my shower, I was planning on doing my hair. My birthday was the one day I didn't have rules on what to wear. I was excited and wanted to dress up. Well, my type of dress up, anyway.

Was Lily going to wish me a happy birthday? Did she even remember? I mean, shes my best friend. She has to. Right?

I sighed and brushed my hair.
I walked over to the shower and put it at the right temperature. I waited about thirty seconds, then walked in, shutting the certain close.

I began singing random songs I had heard on the radio, brushing through my hair and dancing with a shampoo bottle. I had hit that "adult-ish" milestone, now thats something to celebrate.

I took an extra long shower that I knew Maria hated. I danced and sang through the entire shower, letting my worries loose and just having a bit of 'me time.'

I let go of my messed up life and danced my heart out. I knew this kind of luxury wouldn't last forever.

"Elena, get out of that thing!" Maria yelled.

"Alright, Aunt Maria," I shouted back.

I peeked out of the shower, grabbing a pink hello kitty towel and wrapping it around my wet self. I dried off my feet and stepped out.

I got dressed and did a bun,
finishing the outfit with a white flower pin on my bun. I smiled and walked out.

I threw my backpack over my shoulder and walked out of my room and into the living room.

"Bye, Maria!" I shouted and shut the door.

I took a deep breath, letting in all the smells, beautiful and disgusting.
I jumped off the porch, skipping three steps. My day was going great, and this just had to happen.

"Hey, El," I heard a familiar voice sigh. I looked up to see Edison, dressed with a tux, a rose in his pocket, and a small box with a bow on the top in his hand.

Was this really happening?

I smiled, "um, hey."

"I've been a jerk lately, and I wanted to make it up to you," he nodded, holding out his small box towards me.

I took it out of his hand and into mine, smiling. "Thanks."

"Well, go on, open it!" He laughed.

I curved my lips into a faint smile and took of the top, removing the tissue. I shook my head in disbelief.

No. There has to be some kind of explanation. This can't be what I think it is.

This can't be.
It just can't be a ring.
