About twelve minutes in, the first wolf escaped, whimpering and growling.
A few minutes later, the second and third escaped.
In the next five minutes we were all out.
We stood there for a few seconds, trying to fight against our natural instinct to go and feed. We always tried, yet always lost. We began to run through the gate and right out the door. We howled at the moon, running.
We came to a cliff and began to howl some more. Then our alpha, Christopher, began to run through the woods. We followed, running through trees and branches, the cold breeze running through our fur. We stuck our tongue out and ran as if we were running for our lives.
Lily was so right, at the end of the day, whether we liked it or not, it was amazing.
We came to a stop. I whimpered when I realized this was the spot Rick came to every night to stare at us with his pretty eyes through his orange binoculars. But tonight was different. I didn't see Rick.
I didn't see him sitting alone at the edge of the rock, staring at us through his binoculars and sketching us down, giving us his own names. I saw he drew Lily once, or as he liked to call her, Jenna.
All these memories flooded through my mind. Ones I never really cares to pay attention to, ones that had all my attention. Rick was in all of them.
Where could he be?
I walked slowly towards the rock. Before I could approach it for any clue of where Rick might be, Christopher called my name, shouting at me to catch up.
I had to obey our alpha. Lord knows what kind of punishment I'd get for not running towards him right now. But what about Rick? Is he in trouble? Would finding Rick be worth any terrible punishment?
But then, I began to run.
I'm not so sure why, maybe it was that one thought.
The one telling me that if I didn't start running now,
I wouldn't be alive to find out.
