Every single bone in his body was telling him to beat the shit out of her ex-boyfriend. But he didn't, Dan sat on the patch of carpet by his bedside as she cried into his pillow. He gently rubbed his hand up and down her back as she turned her head to look at him. Her tear filled eyes tore him up and it took almost all of his self control to not kiss her. This is what always happens, the stupid ass always breaks her heart and she always goes running back to him when he says he's sorry. 

"Dan am I an idiot? I mean I keep going back. There's something wrong with me." She says sadly, dryly laughing at herself. Dan can't even believe what he's hearing as he vigorously shakes his head. 

"There is something wrong with him not you. You're absolutely perfect Evanna. He's an idiot for hurting you over and over, this isn't your fault." Dan reasons, as he rests his chin on the mattress. She moves her hand down, to gran his arm as she pathetically tugs it towards her. He stands, moving behind her on the bed as they've done during the many times she's come crying. He wraps his arm around her waist and pulls her body close to his as sobs begins to overtake her. She just can't get the image of her ex boyfriend and the other girl out of her mind. Dan just can't listen to her cry, he has to do something, for god sakes anything! He hates sitting here and being helpless to her pain. He turns her to face him as he rests his forehead against hers. He holds her as close as he can, almost trying to will away her pain. Suddenly a thought pops into his head as he grips her hands, pulling her up from the bed. He changes the butt chair for the actual piano bench so they both can sit at the piano as he looks over at her. 

"I've been learning a new song. I want to play it for you. It's for you." Dan explains to Evanna who simply rests her head on his shoulder. He begins to play the song and suddenly Evanna's head shoots up as she just looks at him. (A/N the song I added to the side bar is the song Dan is playing on the piano. ALSO I'm pretty obsessed with Dan's piano playing ability so you might see it a lot of it in future stories.)

And Evanna suddenly realizes that Dan has always been there. Every time her stupid ex fucked up, he was always left to pick up the pieces of her broken heart and put her back together, and he always does. Dan always fixes her just for her to get all broken again. She continues to listen to the beautiful melody that Dan is playing and she eventually begins to softly sing along. They continue their little unintentional duet as Dan smiles to himself. Evanna is almost in awe at Dan's playing abilities. She knew he could play piano well but never thought he could play it this well. She watches as his long fingers dance along the ivory's, enthralled by how it's all making her feel. Dan knows the song is supposed to be long over, but he keeps playing it over and over, noticing how captivated she is in listening to him play. So he keeps playing the song, her humming along with him when she's not staring at his hands, or scanning her eyes up his side profile. He keeps on playing, completely unaware that every single note is pulling at her heartstrings. Every beautiful tone she hears, she falls a little more in love with him, and if he knew that he would probably play the piano, and still wouldn't be enough to equal in how much he loves her. Phil stands outside the closed door, feeling happiness hearing the small duet being played through the door. Dan's fingers dancing along the piano and Evanna's soft honey-like voice, combined and it could get millions of views on YouTube. Eventually Evanna just can't take it anymore as she leans over and kisses Dan's cheek as he plays, he wants to stop but something tells him she'll tell him to start playing again. She presses another kiss, but this time to his neck. She begins to pepper kisses all over the side of his face, causing his cheeks to redden. 

"I-I love you Dan." She tells him, knowing that she means it and that she isn't just swept up in the music. He stutters for a moment before starting the song over again. 

"Like I'm in love with you. I think I always have been." She says, and this causes Dan to stop playing, as his mind is in such a state of static that he can't even produce words. She grows nervous, panicking that she's said the wrong thing, that she misread him. He looks over at him, a smile growing on his lips as he leans forward and connects their lips together. Sparks run through their veins like electricity and they can feel every part of themselves light up. 

"I love you so much Evanna. I always have." Dan whispers, bringing her into his arms, and this time he isn't planning on letting go. At least not for a long while.
