'In the distance,I heard the conch sound for a special assembly. All the other Hecate campers exited the cabin, until only Lou Ellen and I were left.

"Hey,"Lou Ellen said quietly as I adjusted my black jacket."How you doing?"

"Today's the shroud burning,"I said quietly."I'm in charge of lighting the fires. What an honor, huh?"

"Don't be so hard on yourself,Kay,"Lou said."It wasn't your fault. There wasn't anything you could do."

"There was!"I turned on her with surprising force."I should've protected them! And now because of me...."

I turned away from Lou so she couldn't see me cry." I shouldn't have even let them go in the first place."

I was suddenly met with a force from behind me;Lou Ellen hugging me.

"You have to do this for them,Kay."

I swallowed,blinking back tears. Then I faced the cabin door,and said,"For them."'

Blinking,I woke up finding myself lying in a room with some random dude inspecting me like I was an amoeba or something like that.

In a second,I was on my feet, flames dancing on the tips of my fingers and eyes glaring at the inspector dude, who seemed vaguely familiar. He was tall, with curly brown hair, bright blue eyes and a bronze tan that other girls would have been swooning over.

Eric the empousa in human form,I thought. Well,he did clean up nicely. I,on the other hand, probably looked like a meat sack dragged all the way from a butcher's shop. That was probably how I got here.

"Where am I?"I said, trying my best to be intimidating.

"Everywhere and nowhere,"He said, trying to be confusing and failing. Please,my mom is the goddess of crypticism(Is that a word?),I'm pretty good at deciphering that stuff.

"Oh, so your mom is Hecate?"He asked me. Wait, did I say what I thought aloud and he heard it?

"Don't even think about mentioning her,"I growled, trying to establish my cover story as an angry, victimized demigod that most of the half-bloods in the Othrys forces probably were.

He believed me,because he held his hands up in surrender."Geez,I'm sorry!Anyways, you're here and that's fine. The guards who brought you here told me that you have valuable information about Olympus that needs to be given to the Supreme Commander himself. Is that true?"

I nodded, blatantly lying. Even I had no idea what this 'super secret information' was. I guessed that I would have to make up something in the spur of the moment.

To my huge surprise,he nodded."Okay. Let's go to His Supremeness."Wow,I definitely must have been unwittingly turning the charmspeak on.

His Supremeness?I resisted the urge to snort. That sounded even more ridiculous than Dora the Explorer is.

Just as we were going to exit the room,Eric pinned me face-first against the wall and handcuffed my wrists to my back."Just a safety measure."

Well, that 'safety measure' was tight as hell and hurt a lot. I thought I even broke my nose.

As we walked towards what Eric called 'the throne room',I tried to knock him out a couple of times so I could escape, once even getting successful when I kicked him where the sun don't shine, but he never seemed to get the slightest bit of pain.

Damn it. I couldn't even get the handcuffs off because they were Celestial Bronze, and Enchanted Fire doesn't really work on that well.

With my amazing people skills(okay,my mind reading ability),I figured that he must have thought that I was just trying to get out of the handcuffs.
