I woke up with a start, my breath heavy. The island air was oddly chilly, even if it was the middle of the night. I was drenched in sweat despite the cold, and my blanket was lying in a heap on the floor.
I looked around my room in the dim light, scarce rays of moonlight escaping the blinds. The clock on the nightstand beside me read 11:00. "Barely an hour of sleep," I grunted lowly to myself as I rubbed my eyes, trying to chase the images away. Try as I did, they were still plastered in my mind's eye: Tritannus, a bloody knife, and the light. I don't understand what the Hades he has to do with this, I thought to myself as I felt moisture prick my eyes.
I heard a familiar noise which I would normally not have expected to hear at this time of the year, especially in a magical island where the weather is always perfect: rain.
I got out of bed and walked barefoot towards the sole window in my room, my footsteps ringing out in the silent night as if I was a giant. I opened the blinds and saw the truth for myself: water drops made a polka dot pattern on the glass, and new drops were being added every second.
It seemed as if the sky was crying, but I knew Zeus better than that. I realized that the weather was somehow reflecting my mood. It was dark and rainy. Already half of October was over, and if I didn't do something.....
Acting on impulse, I summoned my phone from my nightstand and quickly texted Malcolm.
I might have overheard something about Othrys attacking during the Christmas season.
Seconds later, I got a reply.
Gods of Olympus. What do we do?
You're asking me for help? Have you changed since the last time we saw each other?
Ha ha, I'm serious. You're the one with insider information. What's the best time to strike? We have to attack before they do.
I have an idea.....but Othrys is heavily guarded and reinforcements will appear in the blink of an eye. Especially at the time I'm talking about.
Then do something about it! Make sure that all reinforcements are out of sight and mind.
Roger that, Pace. Here are the details.
I quickly texted him the details.
Yeah okay. I'll tell Chiron ASAP and we'll get the campers ready. Expect chaos.
