Our swords clanged together, a terrifying mirror of the practice fight we had weeks ago. That fight was much gentler, as we were afraid of accidentally hurting each other. Now it was different, at least for him. He was hurting, and he wanted me to feel it. In a much more lethal way.
"Tritannus," I said as I sidestepped his attack. "This isn't you!" His blade whizzed past my ear. I parried it away, my own blade in danger of cutting my shoulder.
"Yes, and you have been perfectly honest about yourself!" Tritannus said as he hit me in the stomach with the hilt of his blade. That was definitely leaving a bruise, both inside and out.
"About most things, I have been honest!" I said as I slashed forward. He easily deflected it. It was definitely harder to defend myself, seeing as he was possessed by an evil Titan lord.
"You know," Tritannus said with a laugh that chilled me to the bone, "You almost had me fooled at the formal, what with your pretty-girl act. Rhea was, obviously." He struck, and he found his target; his blade hit me, creating a long diagonal cut from my collarbone through my shoulder. It stang like hell, but all that I could think about was the healing flask.
"Ah, why did I do that now?" He asked himself condescendingly. "Your blood would come of no use, being spilt." I managed to catch him off guard and stab him in the thigh, but not before the tip of his wickedly sharp blade grazed my forehead. "There are much more useful bloods."
"The gorgon's blood," I realized. "You had it." I smacked him in the head with the flat of my blade. He blinked, momentarily disoriented. Loss of blood must have been deceiving my eyes, because I saw his eyes flicker a sea green.
"Well, it really depends on which one of us you're talking to," Tritannus-Kronos said. "Tritannus had it in his pocket. Kronos took it and drank it."
Holy Hecate, I thought to myself. That renders him practically invincible. Maybe that's how I die: just imagine the news. Girl gets killed by her crush.
"You really need to sort out your split personality deal," I said with a derisive sigh, and stepped extra hard on his foot. In response, he gave me a sharp kick in the shin. Our blades met, bare centimeters away from my nose.
I pushed back with my blade. "Haven't you heard of this thing called 'healthy venting', Tritannus? It's better compared to this form of domestic violence." I elbowed him in the chest.
"I'm not just venting," He said as we dueled. " I also have to kill you for the unforgivable act of being an enemy spy and sabotaging Othrys." He lunged forward, his blade pressing dangerously against my stomach as I moved to parry it away.
I tasted blood on my lips as we fought. It was dripping down from the forehead sound he had made. My shoulder wasn't doing all that well either. I almost slipped on blood that was coming from his thigh wound. I'd also given him a nice bruise on the head, and I hopefully broke a rib.
As I was thinking about how the gorgon's blood would make his wounds heal virtually nonexistent, it hit me. The blood. It helped Kronos possess him easier. But remember the reason why we were planning to use the blood. He can get his memories back.
So I had to distract him, somehow jar him out of his possessed stupor and perform a memory spell on him, to speed the effects up. Then maybe he wouldn't kill me.
