I woke up to the smell of cookies.
Do you think I'm kidding? Well fortunately,I'm not. My whole room smelled of cookies, and my mouth watered as much as my head felt heavy.
Wait,my room? I thought. I looked around, and my surroundings only confirmed the truth. I was lying on my bed,and it was dark outside. either it was really early,or really late.
"What the-" I was interrupted by a knock on the wall.
"You sure do take a long time to sleep," Tritannus's voice said from the other side of the wall.
"How did you know I was awake?" I asked, trying my best not to sound accusatory.
There was a pause, then he said,"You snorted really loudly when you woke up."
I was just dying to give him a sarcastic reply, but instead I said,"Oh."
I heard a sound, which sort of sounded like someone banging their head on the wall in frustration."You really won't stop, will you?"
"Stop what,Your Supremeness?" I said innocently.
"Being nice!" He said."It's really annoying me!" There was a pause."That's it,isn't it?"
I said nothing, and I got only silence in reply. The suddenly,a knock on the door broke the silence. I jumped off the bed and opened the door, to see a smirking Tritannus in front of me.
"I'm taking that as a Yes,Boss, Khloe," He said, hints of a smirk forming on his face.
"What did you mean earlier?" I croaked, feeling like my throat was the Gobi Desert. "I could have died?"
"You were holding a book, weren't you?" He asked and I nodded. "The book is embedded with a powerful curse, which slowly kills the reader if they hold it for too long."
"What's so special about the book?" I said. "It's just an entrance to the Labyrinth, isn't it?"
"It is exactly that,Khloe," He said. "It would mean that anybody,if given the right directions, would be able to enter the headquarters and directly access my files. Speaking of which-" He looked directly into my eyes,"Why were you in my office?" It wasn't a sharp command as per usual, but it still intimidated me.
"I was looking for files," I said, and it wasn't really a lie. I had been looking for files after all, just not the ones he thought I was looking for.
"Why,then?" He asked,still making eye contact."Were you....snooping around?"
I smiled, even though it made my head hurt."Like I said,Sir,I value my life."I winced at the pain in my head."But,how do you-"
"When I got back to the office," He said, "I saw that book missing, and I thought that somebody had stolen it,so I moved the bookcase and found you inside the Labyrinth tunnel passed out. I took you out of there."
"Hang on," I said, holding a hand up."You carried me out of the tunnel, settled me on the couch, and then carried me all the way back to my room?"
His ears turned pink."Um,yeah. That was uncalled for,by the way."
"Um,thanks,I guess?" I muttered, hoping my face wasn't as red as it felt. Not that I felt very red, mind you. All of a sudden, my legs turned to jelly and I almost collapsed onto the floor. Almost being the key word there.
Before I hit the ground, Tritannus swiftly caught me. I held on to him for support, and I realized that there were literally millimeters of space between us. He smelled really familiar, like a mixture of cologne and the sea. It was oddly comforting, I decided, then I realized why it seemed so familiar...........
