"So lemme get this straight," Mini said as she took a sip from her cafe latte. " You had a flashback-dream thingie that you were making out with some ancient demigod hero who just so happens to look like your boss, and at that time you were an ancient Greek princess, and then he dumped you, quite literally, on an island?"
"Yes," I sighed, staring into the deep dark abyss that was my black coffee. "And now he's acting weird, and I don't know what to do!"
"And you're perfectly fine with it?" She asked me incredulously. "Come on, you just made out with your boss's doppelganger! If it were me,I would be running around this cafe screaming!"
"Actually I'm freaking out!" I said as I sipped the coffee. "I can't run around like you, 'cause I'd just look stupid." I gave her a sheepish look. "Not that I'm calling you stupid."
"Actually, it's kinda refreshing to hear that," She said, and now it was my turn to raise my eyebrows. "What I'm saying is, there's always this conception that all Indians are smart asses, and it really annoys the heck out of me."
"So you want someone to call you stupid? I could have done that for you without even asking," A familiar voice said behind us. I didn't need to turn around to know that it was Eric, but I turned around anyway.
"I never even asked you to do anything for me, you idiot," Minakshi said, gritting her teeth. Eric raised an eyebrow suggestively.
"Are you sure about that, fairy cake?" He said, smirking. Minakshi turned red, and I was just watching the scene clueless. Damn, Minakshi has got a hell lot of explanation to do.
"This is getting really confusing," I muttered under my breath to myself as I watched the two of them bicker like teens. As they hurled insults back and forth, I felt my phone buzz in the pocket of my jeans. I took it out to see a notification that truly shocked me.
Tritannus
Your room. Now.
I blinked, as if that was going to make it go away, but unfortunately it didn't. I looked at it again to verify whether somebody was manipulating the Mist to make it that way. Unfortunately, nobody was.
No matter what I had said to Minakshi, saying that I felt extremely awkward in Tritannus's presence was a major understatement. Oh gods, something awkward always seemed to happen between me and guys, especially if they had a familiar mane of messy black hair.
"I wish I'd never bumped into you that day and apologized, and I'm so glad I spilled my coffee all over you. Even if it was an awesome pumpkin spice latte."
"I wish I didn't accept your apology, because you ruined one of my favorite shirts with your stupid pumpkin latte! Seriously lady, who in their right mind would drink that?"
"Yeah, the person who drinks blood, of all the things in the world, is criticizing my beverage choices!"
"Well-"
"Guys," I said, interrupting Eric, "I hate to get in the between of the pleasant little argument you're having here, but I gotta be someplace else." I gave them a sheepish smile and shrugged. " I'm sorry I can't stick around to watch you guys fling profanities at each other, but maybe some other time?"
I dug around in my jeans pocket, fished out a few drachmas (Titan version, mind you. I would be dead if I had Olympian drachmas with me in Othrys) and set it on the table. "Call me later, Mini. You have a lot of explaining to do. And Eric," I gave him an almost chiding look, "Don't underestimate the power of pumpkin spice lattes." Before either of them could reply, I sprinted out of the cafe and towards my quarters.
