I slowly turned around to see an eerily familiar man behind me. I must have looked pretty surprised, because he raised his eyebrows and smirked at me. Great, another doppelganger.
Now you might be wondering, Who does Kronos still look like now? Hint hint: It's Luke. I'm not even kidding, he looked exactly like him, but with creepy golden eyes that I knew weren't those of my former head counsellor. Now why was I acting this way? It's simple. Luke (well, technically Kronos , and I'm not particularly fond of him either)almost killed me.
"Yield!" He said, parrying my strike away. "You're good, but not good enough."
I blocked his attack. "Not good enough for this?" I dropped to the floor and swept his legs out from under him with a sweeping kick. He fell down, but before I could get up and attack him, he got up and attacked me.
Luke's sword missed my neck by merely centimeters as I quickly dodged it. I was about to attack, when I realized that I kept my stomach exposed. Uh oh.
Luke kicked me, and I fell onto the floor, skidding a little bit. Luke walked over to me, an evil grin on his face. Behind him, I could see Annabeth tiptoeing away from the guards who clearly weren't doing their job. I had to distract Kronos if both Annabeth and I had any chance of surviving.
"This is where it ends,Khloe," He said, towering over me. Before I could say a sassy reply, his sword was en route to stab me square in the heart.
"This must be the new assistant general," Kronos said, turning to me. "I've never seen you before."
I held my hand out for a handshake. "Claire Desjardins, Sir," I said, hoping to the gods that Desjardins didn't have any relatives named Claire.
He didn't shake my hand, and I put my hand down awkwardly. Well, this was going to be fun (note the sarcasm).
"Desjardins...."He said thoughtfully. "Are you somehow related to the former Chief Lector of the Egyptian House of Life?"
"Second cousin once removed," I said, my mind racing to think up all of the answers to the questions that he would probably ask me. "We didn't talk much."
"If I recall correctly, you had come here with the promise that you would provide vital information," Kronos said, looking suspicious. "How's that going for you?"
"Uh, you see," My eyes darted around and finally met those of Tritannus. "The boss has been working so hard to get the alliance agreements finalized, he forgot to ask me about it, I guess."
"And what were you doing the whole time that you've been working here?"
"The alliance agreement paperwork, and answering petitions from the different monster groups about working conditions." That wasn't a lie, because I actually had to do all of that, and every day the letters were increasingly piling up on my desk.
"Adequate," Kronos said, eyeing me. "And why exactly haven't you given the information yet?"
I was about to answer him, when Tritannus cut in. "I thought I could do the battle plans on my own."He turned to Kronos, but his eyes were on me. "I'm sorry."
"If that is the case, Tritannus," Kronos said calmly, but he was glaring daggers at him,"You will have to submit the revised battle plans to me latest by October in the mortal world. I can't afford to have outdated ones."
"Yes,Lord Kronos," He said, calmly meeting his glare. "I will make sure of it. If I'm not mistaken. we have something to discuss about." He turned to me and gave me a meaningful look. "Khloe, get the paperwork done latest by today."
