Or at least that's what would have happened if I hadn't been woken up by the smell of something burning.

I sprang out of bed, my senses heightened. Something was happening outside, and it was not good.

Fire, I thought to myself as I quickly pulled on a hoodie. How did that happen? A bang on the door shook me out of my thoughts, and I rushed to unlock it.

The door flew open to find Eric with a very hasty look on his face. "What happened?" I asked him. " And why does the air smell like something's burning?"

"The drakon broke out of the dungeons," Eric said hurriedly. "It's setting the whole place on fire."

"What?" I shrieked. "I thought that the dungeons were safe!"

"So did I. We need all the help that we can get to stop this." I ran out of the room with Eric, and found myself in a thick blanket of smoke.

"Where's the fire?" I choked out, trying to find my way out. I heard screams, and I tried to run towards the sound. Thanks to my excellent sense of vision, I ran headfirst into a wall. I shrugged it off quickly, and tried to find a way out of the smoke.

"The main corridor!" Eric's voice said near me, and I felt someone grip my hand. "We need to get out of here!"

Following my hearing, I pulled Eric along, carefully guiding myself with the help of the stair banister. It was hard to be careful while you're trying to run as fast as you can, but eventually we got to the bottom of the stairs.

I was relieved that I could see again, but this was definitely a sign I did not want to see. Flames were everywhere you could ever imagine. Monsters were either running for their lives, or desperately trying to put out the fires and failing.

"Where's the drakon?" I asked a demigod breathlessly after a hellhound almost ploughed into me.

"Straight down, then turned right, I think ," She said as she tried and failed to put out the fire with an extinguisher.

My blood ran cold. Straight down, then right......it definitely wouldn't have turned right to go back to the dungeons where it escaped from. I looked at Eric, and he seemed to understand too.

"The Supreme Commander's office," We both said at the same time. Crap. What do I do?

"You stay here and help out, I go save the documents," I said to Eric. "I know where the stuff are kept, and they're gonna be hard to replace if they get destroyed."

"It's too risky," Eric said. "How can you face the drakon all by yourself?"

I took a step forward. "Oh,the amount of faith you have in me, Eric." I looked back at Eric and gave him a cheeky smile. Then I ran towards the office.

As I ran through the hallways, me and my conscience had an enlightening conversation between ourselves.

Conscience: This is stupid.

Me: I know!

Conscience: You might die.

Me: That's already gonna happen, isn't it?

Conscience: Don't remind me.

I sharply turned right at the end of the hallway and sprinted down the hallway, passing an empousai rescue team with buckets of water. Suddenly I screeched to a halt in front of a blazing trail of fire.

Conscience: Follow the fire.

Me: That's probably the smartest thing you've said all day.

I followed the trail of fire (which were extremely hard to miss) till the end of the passage, where it stopped in front of a wall. I looked to the right and saw no more fire, and a feeling of dread set in the pit of my stomach.
