When one possesses all the wealth of the world, one must be most content, no?

If through your fingers flows gold as would sand, if from your neck hang rubies and pearls like ripe fruits, if on your skin dwell the softest silk and satin, surely you must also possess all the happiness of the world.

Yet for a certain prince, his wealth and riches were far from entertaining him daily. His palace was flowing with servants, but felt empty. His walls were decorated with beauties from around the world, but they seemed dull to him. His life was monotone, the occasional meetings and parades distracting him for a short period of time.

As a new recreation, he hired the most beautiful women of the country to amuse him. Each day pretty faces were presented to him. Some danced, some sang, some spent the night with him. He felt slightly more occupied and took pleasure in watching the spectacles presented to him. He contemplated their faces, trying to see what was under that thin veil of theirs. Only their eyes were visible and the prince found it amusing to recognize the women by their eyes. It was a hard task since all had brown or black eyes, making it difficult to difference.

Pursuing his game for days on, the prince managed to recognize each one of the women. His task now completed, he ordered we bring him sweets, as a reward for his wit. The servant arrived carrying a tray filled with pastries and fresh fruits. He bowed down and laid the food on a table next to the royal. The boy too had a veil covering his face, as did all the prince's servants. The prince thanked the valet who responded with a nod, looking up for mere seconds.

The prince jerked up from his throne and grasped the sides of it as the servant scurried down the steps and made his way to the kitchens. The prince ordered him to halt immediately. The poor boy froze in fear, dreading he made a mistake. The prince demanded he kneel before him. The servant obeyed as all the women watched slightly afraid. The prince's hand lifted the boy's chin, forcing him to look in his eyes.

Out of all the jewels he owned, none came close to the sparkle that boy's eyes had. His urge to possess guided him and ordered the servant to stay by his side. The boy had nothing to do other than staring into the prince's eyes, letting him admire the grassy green twinkle of his irises. For hours, the noble wandered in the lively jungle trapped in the servant's glowing eyes.

Everyday the prince would call for the beautiful-eyed servant to appear before him. After one week, he let go of all the other women, their presence now futile to him. All he needed as entertainment was those big, innocent, green eyes. He felt troubled at some point due to the fact he would surely never completely own them. Those two emeralds worth so much more than the gold he possessed.

As time gradually passed, the prince spent his entire days in company of the servant, using his eyes as an escape from the real life. Soon, his entire nights as well. He was never seen without the boy, fussing once he left for mere minutes.

The domestic had no protest and obeyed loyally. The amount of attention the prince gave him flattered him greatly. His duties consisted of following the prince and pleasing him with treats as he could gaze into his eyes. The fact that the prince's main interest in him was simply the color of his irises didn't bother him the slightest. Simply remaining silently by the dynast's side was more than satisfying.

One night, the prince called for the boy. It wasn't unusual since he was often called over to soothe the sovereign before his slumber. Once by his side, the prince pulled the servant so he was sitting in front of him. The gesture surprised the boy but he said nothing and remained still, gazing steadily in the prince's eyes. His master bowed his head to him in gratitude.

At this point, the domestic was completely lost and began to panic: under no circumstances was a prince to bow to a poor servant. He begged for him to sit up but was cut off as the prince raised his hand.

Slowly opening his blue eyes to meet with the boy's, he spoke.

"I wish to thank you, my dear servant. You, a simple man whose only wealth is my satisfaction and joy, has made me wiser. I have learned that I may not possess everything. The beauty of your eyes belongs to you and you alone. After meditating in the lively forest contained in your eyes, I realized I will only truly be happy if I obtain a peaceful mind. All I would need would be the simplest of things, allowing my thoughts to be at ease. I have pondered on that matter and now know all my riches mean nothing to me. Your eyes have provided me with great serenity and I ask of you, would you allow me to contemplate them for days on end? I will do anything you ask. I will rid myself of my fortune, will abandon my stature, whatever you see fit. All I ask is for you to stay by my side," implored the sovereign. He paused and pursued, "Of course I understand if you refuse. My happiness may not, for any reason, run over your own. It is something I also became aware of. The choice is yours."

The poor domestic was rendered silent and stared dumbfounded at his prince. He was content the sovereign had finally found where his happiness laid, and was overjoyed it was with him. He smiled and for the first time, dared to speak.

"I accept under one condition," started the servant while the prince gazed expectantly, "I wish for you to not only appreciate my eyes, but my whole being as well."

His demand was audacious coming from such a mediocre person, but he did not waver and kept his eyes fixated on the prince's thoughtful features. A wide grin spread across his face and he nodded. He accepted the boy's request. What the servant did not know was that the young sovereign had already begun to acknowledge him as a complete person. Simply being near the boy made him somewhat calm and content. The domestic's wish was far from demanding, and pleased the prince to such an extent that he wrapped his arms around the boy's frail figure.

The prince promised he would make sure the boy would be as happy as he was. He vowed he would dedicate his life to being able to see that bright smile everyday, if he would be allowed to see it better. The servant bowed his head and finally removed the thin veil covering the bottom half of his face. His thin, rose lips curled into a shy smile as he looked away.

Once again, the dynast observed in awe and admiration. At last he could clearly see the structure of the face he had grown to appreciate. He caressed the soft skin and leaned in closely, whispering against the boy's lips,

"I will give you any and everything, but you must promise, do not ever leave me now that I have found you..."
