The grand room was crowded with soldiers and servants. From the high ceiling dangled golden chandeliers, their candles lit and illuminating the hall with the help of torches lining along the walls. In the center laid two large thrones, both emptied. Opposite from them were wide wooden doors guarded by castle knights. Two rows of three soldiers stood straight and still, awaiting the king for their knighting. Surrounding them were noble personalities and loyal servants interested by the event as well.
As the heavy doors creaked open, the young king stepped inside the throne room. A collective clatter rung in the hall as every soldier tapped their heels together and struck their spears on the tiles. The king advanced confidently, head high and sight undisturbed. The subjects progressively bowed as he headed to his throne. Once sat on his seat, he ordered they stand.
"Brave soldiers of Smaragdi, you have proven yourselves worthy of being knighted and joining the king's personal army. Tonight, in the presence of this audience, you shall receive the title of Knight of Smaragdi. The duty and pride followed with this rank is something not to neglect. This name will follow you until you reach your tombs and long after. It is with great gratification and honor I bestow these upon you," announced the king with a warm smile. The audience clapped and one by one the soldiers marched forward to be knighted.
Each man bowed humbly and thanked the king rising to their feet. Once all six were knighted, an applause shattered the silence. Long tables covered with exquisite buffets were brought to the room and musicians began their entertaining. The joyful ambiance was pleasant and lasted well into the night. Two hours after the ceremony, guests were still amusing each other in the Knights' company.
Sir Alfred Jones chuckled with ladies and his fellow soldiers. Catching the king in the corner of his eye, he decided to speak to him. The tall blond excused himself and sauntered to the sovereign.
"Your majesty," he greeted with a bow.
"Sir Jones," responded the king with a nod. The present guests excused themselves and headed towards other invitees. As they left, the noble placed his hand on Alfred's shoulder with a polite smile. "Is something the matter?"
Alfred shook his head and clasped his hands around the king's. "Nothing your highness. I simply wish to express my gratitude for allowing me to join your trusted circle of Knights," he asserted with a small bow. From this, the king smiled widely. His hands rested on both the boy's shoulders straightening him up.
"You are a member of the King's Knights, you may address to me as Arthur as of now," declared the green-eyed king. "You and I both know it is your destiny to fight alongside the king. Ever since I have known you, you have promised to protect and serve me loyally. It is my great pleasure allowing you to stand by my sides."
Alfred grinned flattered. Their families had been very close to each other, Jones' fighting alongside Kirklands was how it had always been. As children they had sewn a powerful bond of allegiance and trust. Alfred being Arthur's knight was only fair.
Their evening was pleasurable with music and laughter. Near midnight, the hall began to clear. The king had already retired to his chambers and everyone headed to theirs as well. As Alfred left the throne room, someone tapped his shoulder. He spun around in the dimly lit corridor and saw a petite maid. She bowed offering the blond a small piece of paper.
