The cracking of branches and shuffle of leaves followed Lukas close behind. He sprinted as fast as he could through the eerie forest trying to escape the horrible beast chasing him. He was still shaking from the dreadful events which occurred barely seconds before. But under no circumstance was he to give up, he had to fight, he had to survive. If not for himself, he had to do it for Matthias. The loud growl thundered through the trees and shook the earth. The blond fell to his feet and whipped his head around in fright. It was too late, the horrendous beast was already there. The smergol paced slowly and snarled. Lukas held his spear in front of him but his arms were unable to stop quivering. The white beast roared and opened his jaw pouncing on the blond.

With his remaining strength and wit, the Iruu stuck his weapon in the beast's maw rolling to the side. The smergol whined in pain and clasped its paws on its face. The distraction was just enough for Lukas to jump up and sprint away. He could hear the angry howls of the predator echoing past the tall trees. He didn't waste any time and ran towards the island's volcano. The squawking of trigoens surprised the blond making him stumble against a tree. On the green bark squirmed thousands of crawling insects, their bright colors meaning nothing good.

Lukas pushed himself up and ran. His mind started to fill with bloody images and dreadful cries but he couldn't afford being disturbed by those past scenes. He needed to advance as fast as he could. He needed to make it to shelter before nightfall.

At the foot of the mountain the blond stopped to catch his breath. He studied its surface searching for a cave or something he could use as cover. After ten minutes of scouring, he finally saw what seemed to be a cavity. With only his bare hands and destroyed leather shoes, he began climbing. The side of the volcano was either very slippery or very rugged. Thankfully Lukas was an agile climber and swiftly made his way to the cavern.

There was barely any platform before the walls of the rock began to separate creating an opening. The cave was very small, but more than enough for the blond Iruu. He patted the walls making sure it would last more than one night. The rock was cold but not humid, making it suitable. The structure of the cavern was flat enough, with a couple plants it should be comfortable for at least one night.

Laying his belongings on the ground, he immediately rushed out with only a dagger slid down his pants. Within ten minutes he had gathered giant leaves and three jekuos which were the fruit of one of the trees growing in the jungle. Fastening the fruits in a bundle of leaves, Lukas mounted the volcano's side back up his cave. He had also picked up sticks for a fire later on. Sat on the edge of the hollow, the lonesome Iruu contemplated the horizon, well above the canopy of the trees. The sun started to set, filling the sky with new colors.

After five minutes of searching through his small leather bag, Lukas finally found the two stones used for making fire. He flicked them against each other until a spark made its way to the small hearth. With his sharp dagger he cut one of the red fruits open making orange liquid sap out. He bit into the bitter food with a tired and sorrowful expression. His limbs felt so heavy they could just snap off and his brain was pounding against his skull. His heart too numb from panic and terror was unable to feel.

Lukas laid himself on his bed of leaves after making sure the smergol was nowhere to be found. His pouch was used as a pillow and his dagger remained firmly in his grip. He tried to let sleep come and save him from the horrors of his mind but it just didn't come, leaving his mind rampaging through his memories. He twisted and turned, groaned and shouted, but the thoughts came spiraling back. It was inevitable, he had to face the truth, he had to accept it. Matthias was gone.

Now as the narrator, I do believe I have some explaining to do. This young Iruu has been through dreadful horrors many can be grateful not to have experienced. But before that, let me start from what is more or less the beginning.
