The constant pitter patter of the rain turned into a calming rhythm. The gray colors of the street and rushing pedestrians with their dark umbrellas could be considered depressing and flat, but for Alfred and Arthur it was joyful and lively. The cold weather was the perfect excuse to huddle closer–the crowded streets making it discreet and natural enough, the large umbrellas the perfect hideaway for furtive kisses. Under their shared umbrella, their hands snaked between their bodies to entwine lovingly.

Separating from the crushing mob of Londoners, the couple strolled through a park. Large puddles spread out on the concrete path in which Alfred couldn't help but jump in. Arthur would recede but then immediately stick onto the blond's side with a scowl on his face. The park was empty of passersby but filled with creatures of the rain. The raindrops became thinner and fewer, making the atmosphere calm. The light fog gave an eerie feeling which Arthur loved, especially when laced with Alfred.

The few flowers present sparkled in the occasional rays of light thanks to the rain droplets. The grass shone as the sun showed itself shortly. The park took life shortly during the illumination.

The blooming was short though as the clouds rolled back and covered the sun. The constant sound of rain hitting the ground appeared once more. Alfred pressed Arthur's hand against his lips and pulled him under a closed shack, it's small roof providing just enough shelter for them. The green-eyed man closed the umbrella and nuzzled against Alfred's warm bomber jacket. After contemplating the rain for a while the blond spoke quietly.

"You know, I actually love London at spring time," he declared staring off to the distance. Arthur glanced up in slight surprise and frowned. "Really? Usually people complain of its bad weather... Tourists don't enjoy coming to England in a time like this," mumbled the Brit through his scarf.

"Well I like it," stated Alfred with a grin. "I like the rainy weather and the feeling it procures. The sound, the sensation, the smell. It's all really relaxing. When you hear each drop hitting the ground it's like you can feel all your worries and problems washing away."

Arthur smiled and squeezed his lover's hand in delight. It was true that the droplets and the whole ambiance of the rain was tranquil and beautiful. Although not something many people enjoyed. He however, took a liking to it since he had the great honor of being able to contemplate it in the company of his boyfriend, which of course made it much more pleasant. Watching the water slide down the leaves and upon the ground made the Brit ponder. Why was it Alfred always came all the way to England to see him anyway? Why did he put so much effort into seeing him even though they barely started going out three months ago. It was something Arthur failed to comprehend despite his masters degree in literature. With a wave of courage he dared a risqué question.

"Alfred," began the green-eyed man, "How much do you love me?" The American turned his head and looked down to his boyfriend taken aback by the sudden inquiry. He chuckled lightly and wrapped his arm around the man's small figure.

"Why would you ask that? Are you doubting of my love for you?" he asked leaning in close to the blushing Brit. Arthur gently pushed Alfred away and stared at his feet. "No... I know you must have some feelings for me... probably... But I want to know just how much... I guess," murmured the dark blond. Alfred observed closely Arthur's worried and bashful features then stood up straight and shoved his hands in his pockets. Silence ruled between the couple with the rain's faint pitter patter. Arthur soon began to regret his question and started to hate himself for it.

"Have you ever tried counting the raindrops during a precipitation?" questioned Alfred, startling Arthur. The green-eyed Brit shook his head, confused. His lover pursued, staring aimlessly in the fog, "I have. It takes a lot of time and patience but most importantly, it's impossible and futile. To be able to measure the quantity of drops would require light speed counting skills which no human possesses. Since it's not possible, time-wasting, boring and so much more, we don't do it. But we know there are a lot. So many. We can't measure the amount, it being too grand."

Arthur frowned and nodded slowly. He followed each of Alfred's words but had no idea where their conversation was going.

"Just like the number of raindrops in a precipitation is impossible to count, the amount of love I hold within my heart for you is also uncountable. You could try to numerate it but you would quickly have enough of counting. You could try to estimate, but my love keeps growing and the numbers would never be the same. You could just ask me to tell you, but how could I answer when even I can't pin point exactly how much my heart beats to be with you. Unfortunately I can't answer you Arthur, you'll just have to make do with that," concluded the blond American.

The splash of the rain was the only remaining sound around them as Arthur stared wide-eyed at Alfred. His heart squeezed and pulsed inside his chest. He realized he really was an idiot for doubting Alfred. The git was clearly head-over-heels for him and he even made sure it was understood. But despite all the daily affections the Brit received, his low self-esteem and omnipresent anxiety hammered him with doubts and fears. Arthur bowed his head down in shame and stared at his shoes.

  "I'm... I'm sorry."

  "What for?" smiled softly Alfred.

"For doubting you? I don't know... I just... I guess I still can't believe someone like you could have feelings for someone like me. That's all. So I overthink things and get scared you don't actually love me as much as I love you. And that thought actually terrifies me," admitted Arthur. His eyes remained on the wet concrete and his hands in his pockets.

Soon after his confession he felt an additional warmth against his hand. Alfred's large hand snaked under the pocket and made its way to entwine their fingers together under the cloths. "It's okay. I don't mind. If that's your worry then I will repeat it as many times it takes for you to understand it clearly. I love you. I love seeing you. I love being with you. I love talking to you. I love you when you're far away. I love you when you're close to me. I love you so much I don't know if it's possible to love someone like this. I love you more than I could ever love myself. I love you and only you. I love-"

"Okay okay! I get it!" interrupted Arthur clasping his hands over Alfred's mouth. He glanced around their surroundings and smiled shyly. "I get it now..." The American beamed and pulled his lover in his arms for a tight embrace. For once, Arthur didn't complain about being squished to death. After releasing the Brit, Alfred bent over for a small and loving kiss.

The dark clouds slowly parted and the rain started decreasing. Arthur laced his hand back together with Alfred's and they strolled back onto the path with their yellow umbrella over their heads.
