The tale of two powerful gods, both driven by passionate love, is still told throughout the centuries. Their affection became a famous fable and a heartwarming story. The names of Lovino and Antonio were mentioned for years as ideal lovers, inspiring many couples.

Long ago, when the powerful Roman Empire ruled over many countries, gods looked after the humans carefully. Each deity had a field of work they had to take care of. They peacefully lived together in Heaven working each day to keep order on Earth. Two gods, the guardian of soldiers and farmers, and the god of love, beauty, desire and prosperity, were madly in love with each other.
Lovino, the god of destruction and war, had a very short temper and was often grumpy. With Antonio's joy and cheer, the deity would calm down and enjoy the tranquility of their Heaven. The god of love absorbed and tempered the male essence, uniting the opposites of their personalities in mutual affection.
For many living beings, both were made for each other. Their opposite personalities completed one another. They were really a beautiful pair.
However some gods thought their love was unholy and inappropriate. In their jealousy, they thought of a plan to separate the lovers and ban them from Heaven. After months of scheming, the foul deities trapped the couple in one of Heaven's many gardens. Lovino and Antonio were oblivious to their intentions and were attacked without warning.
The god of love refused to fight and was killed immediately. This awakened a terrifying rage in Lovino's soul. The warrior slaughtered each god in fury. Once his carnage over, he sunk to his knees, cradling the body of his lost lover. His tears flooded the seas and rivers. His grief sent rage into every man's heart.
A certain god hadn't yet given in to death, and as he breathed his last breaths, he cursed Lovino to die and be reborn human. The mourning deity was instantly struck by lightning and killed. His soul was descended from Heaven down to Earth. It took possession of a young farmer on the brink of death.
Upon the former god's awakening, his memories flowed out of his mind along with any divine powers. He pursued his life believing he had always been a poor man living in the south of the Roman Empire's peninsula. He went on ignoring the melancholy and rage resting in the far depths of his heart.
In Heaven's gardens, many gods gathered around their slain brothers. A close friend to Antonio agonized over his cruel death. The goddess of marriage found it unfair such hate could want to break the tie between two loving beings. As a gift to her lost friend, she turned his soul into a human as well.
Antonio descended to Earth under her protection and landed in the west side of the Roman Empire. Unable to lead the two lovers to each other, she simply watched over them from Heaven.
They lived as humans for many years. They grew old without ever knowing anything of their past, without knowing what that terrible pain in their chest was. The goddess of marriage often played around with them, hoping memories would resurface upon seeing the figures in the water or in the clouds. Both humans were unaffected.
Lovino soon ceased to be a farmer and became the general of an army. Antonio built a beautiful shop where he sold lovely perfumes and charms. They lived happily despite their separation. One day, thanks to the goddess' doing, both men had to be at Rome for their careers.
In a large crowd on Rome's market, the former gods walked among the others. Shoved by the merchants, Antonio stumbled on Lovino. The warrior caught the man and helped him to his feet. Their eyes locked together in awe. A grand feeling of reminiscence bubbled up along with adoration. They stood still surrounded by hustling men and women who shouted at them to move. Neither could bring themselves to speak as they didn't know what they were feeling.
Finally Lovino inquired if they had met before, earning a dubious response. They left the square side by side, asking each other questions. Antonio's green eyes filled with life and Lovino's smile shone brightly. They walked up to a hill and hid from any unwanted eyes.
They renounced trying to suppress the forceful pull between each other and gave in, crashing their mouths together. At the touch of one another's lips, their souvenirs swarmed back and replenished their lost attachment. Tears streamed down their faces and turned their sweet kiss into a salty one. Their fingers traced over each other's cheeks, learning to know the new form their lover had taken.
The reunion of both past gods warmed the heart of the goddess looking after them. She sent down many doves carrying myrtles and roses, later becoming the flowers of passion. The lovers embraced each other dearly as they were showered with the sweet scented plants. The dark hole in the bottom of their hearts disappeared as if it had never existed. The only feelings present in their souls were passion, gratitude, devotion and peace.

And so, the legend of two fallen gods whose love was hated and envied, was spread throughout the empire. Their romantic reconciliation was glorified and admired. Their unconditional love touched both Heaven and Earth, leaving a charming trace in both places.
