Jess / Sophie

"Are you sure it's okay for me to be here? I don't know anyone." Jess managed to stall Sophie as they headed for her boyfriend's house.

"You know me, that's good enough." Sophie grinned in response as she took her hand and guided her to the front door.

Sophie's boyfriend Aaron and the rest of his housemates were having a gathering at their place tonight and she had invited Jess to go along with her. Although Jess had met Aaron she had not yet met any of the other guys or girls that would be attending and therefore, she was a bit unsure about her invite.

She didn't want to go fully noticed and for people to wonder why on earth she was there however, Sophie seemed insistent that she had nothing to worry about and she would be welcomed.

Jess went along with it and it wasn't until they were heading to the door that she began to have second thoughts again. She didn't know these people and although meeting new people was a constant part of daily life at Uni, in these circumstances it was still pretty daunting.

"This way." Sophie urged Jess once she had been let inside by some guy.

She then began guiding Jess down the hallway and clearly on the look out for her boyfriend that wasn't yet in sight. However, she did manage to be greeted by every other person they seemed to walk by, all of which Jess had never seen in her life.

It was the beauty of studying in such a huge place because you could guarantee that you would never see the same people on a daily basis. Not once had Jess passed the same individual on her way to a lecture. Not once had she queued up in line behind the same person who had been in front of her the previous week. There was always a new face to see and a new story to be unveiled but chances were, you'd never get to read it as you'd probably never see them again.

"Do you want a drink? I'll get us one." Sophie then tried to grasp Jess' attention, who couldn't help but take note of every individual around the room.

When in an environment like this, she always found herself skimming her surroundings and taking pure interest into the life of these strangers. It was fun to imagine what their background was, where they came from and how many siblings they had. There were people from all over the world with different stories to tell from the many different cultures and if Jess had a chance, she's love to know every single one of them.

"Okay, thanks!" She replied as she got a usual 'Sophie grin' in return. "I'll just wait here, out of the way."

"I'll be right back." Sophie nodded before heading off into the sea of people and heading for the kitchen.

As she ventured through the individuals, engrossed in conversation or staring absentmindedly at their phones, she suddenly caught sight of Jack Lawrence, heading her way. He was one of her boyfriend's housemates and also a bit of a player. He was known for his bad reputation with girls and also for his careless attitude when it came to any academic work for his course. However, after dating Aaron for about a year now, Sophie had got to know the better side of him, one that didn't involve sleeping around and then breaking hearts the moment he got bored.

"Sophie Carter!" Jack called out as he approached her. "Let me guess, you have lost your prince charming."

"I haven't actually seen him yet." Sophie responded as the pair shared a brief hug.

"He's in there with the guys. Who's that girl you brought with you?"

Sophie had seen Jack's eyes wandering the moment they began talking and she knew exactly where they had been laid. He was focused on Jess standing over in the corner and the look across his face was one Sophie knew meant business.
