"Why do you look like steam is about to come out of your ears?" Juliet asked as Sophie stormed into the living room, while slamming the door shut behind her.
"Because it is!" She bit before slouching back down on the sofa and throwing her arms over her chest.
Juliet didn't say anything for a moment as she just sat and watched her sister. She didn't really know what was going on here but it wasn't difficult to take a guess. It had to do with Aaron, as always.
"What did he do this time?"
"It's nothing. What are you watching?" Sophie asked as she shrugged Juliet's comment off and reached for the remote control.
"You can't come charging in here like that and then tell me it's nothing! There is obviously something going on." Juliet stressed before snatching the remote control back out of her sister's hand. "...and it's a movie."
"Oh I definitely can! Keeping secrets is what we're both great at now, isn't it?"
In that moment Juliet could have reacted by screaming back at Sophie in just as much frustration as she was receiving. She knew that she was still mad about her meeting Kieran behind her back. She knew she was still mad that she was lying to her; something they had always promised never to do. However, Juliet felt as though she didn't have much choice anymore.
It felt as though Sophie didn't want her doing anything; as though she was incapable. She was being suffocated by her own sister's insecurities and worries that it was just easier to keep secrets so she could breathe.
"You would have reacted badly if I had told you I was meeting Kieran. We've been through this." Juliet sighed, already feeling exhausted of where this conversation was going.
"Of course I would have done! You don't know much about him. He's a stranger."
"And I'm not twelve years old anymore so the whole 'don't speak to strangers' is getting pretty old."
"Stop doing this!" Sophie yelled only causing Juliet to mimic the tone in her voice.
"Doing what?!
"Speaking to me with such an attitude! Have some respect."
Running her hands through her hair in aggravation, there was so much Juliet wanted to say right now. She was fuming; being pushed past her limits however, she did everything in her power to filter the words leaving her mouth.
"You're suffocating me, Sophie." She stressed while dropping her hands to her lap. "You're constantly telling me what I shouldn't be doing! What happened to us having fun?"
Sophie didn't say anything while she just watched her sister with anticipation of what was going to come next. She knew exactly what Juliet was thinking and she knew there was nothing she could do to change that.
"You're turning out to be like mum and dad!" Juliet yelled before standing to her feet.
Those words cut like a knife.
Every effort Sophie had made to protect her sister was being viewed as her taking over and being controlling. That had never been her intentions. She had only ever wanted what was best for Juliet and to keep her out of harms way.
They didn't have their parents around, the had lost their brother, so they needed each other. However, it seemed as though more and more distance was being created between them.
Their relationship had become complicated. Sophie had been juggling the role of Juliet's sister but also her parents. She had taken on so much at once and that had caused such a foggy situation between them.
