Jess
"Hey! I thought I'd see you in here." Jack practically yelled as he strolled across the top floor of the library.
Looking up from her laptop, Jess instantly flushed with embarrassment at his need to make a scene. Many people were distracted from their intense study session due to his loud voice and now all attention was being directed to her too.
"Shh!" Jess' finger went straight to her lips as she tried to silence him.
"What?" He laughed as he took the seat beside her, slouching back as he did so.
"Do you read the signs?"
Jess pointed over to the huge red painted wall with 'SILENT ZONE' written in bold black writing. It was in accord which each floor, which had a different colour coding how silent you had to be. It began with green, allowing people to talk freely, to yellow which insisted you had to whisper and to red, where pure silence was essential.
Typically for Jess, she had decided to find her spot in the red zone today which had just made Jack's interruption even more embarrassing.
"The signs?" Jack questioned as he followed her finger and read the words. "Oh that, it's cool nobody cares."
"I think they probably do care." Jess whispered, mentally praying he would just be quiet as people couldn't help but stare at this point.
Shaking his head, Jack glimpsed over to everyone sat in the room now engrossed in their work once again.
"Hey!" He called and when only a few took notice, he stood to his feet and upped his volume. "Hey!"
The second try instantly caught everyone's attention, as they looked straight at him.
"None of you mind me talking to this beautiful girl do you?"
Jack's cheeky smile and choice of words caused Jess to blush while he earned many smiles around the room. She wasn't sure if it was because they knew who he was or if they just found the whole thing humours or sweet however, he earned a few shaking heads as further confirmation that they didn't mind... even though they probably did.
"See." Jack took a seat once again. "So let's talk."
Biting down on her lip, Jess was desperately trying not to smile but it was impossible. Although this whole thing was completely embarrassing, it was also somewhat romantic in a strange way, which was unusual for Jack.
"About what?"
"About this." Jack reached over and pointed to her laptop screen.
Jess currently had her feedback open on an essay she had submitted and was now regretting it as Jack was bringing attention to it.
"78%; a good first. Tell me how you do it?"
Glimpsing at the screen and then back at Jack, Jess felt embarrassed all over again.
"It's only my third one so... I can't really hand out advice." She shrugged her shoulders as she was desperately trying to move the conversation along.
On the inside, she was jumping around with excitement at the result that was presented on her screen. She had put so much work into that essay so to have earned that first that she was aiming for, felt amazing. No other feeling could compare to that sense of achievement and knowing that if you did find that extra motivation within you for added effort, it could have amazing consequences.
"I'm more of a 2:1 kind of gal."
Smiling, Jack then began to laugh.
"And you know by now that I am a 3rd or fail kind of guy, who needs a little help."
