Sophie / Juliet
..."I'm scared, Sophie." Juliet sat on the edge of the sofa in their living room with her hands entwined together.
Since her meeting with the head teacher yesterday, the topic of her parents was all she could think about. She was still angry at the school for feeling the need to get involved when they didn't know anything about their family but she was also terrified for what this could all mean.
Things had been confirmed that their parents were actually already on a flight and would be arriving tonight. Both girls knew that they wouldn't waste any time in heading over here, ready to express all of their unneeded opinions on the matter.
This whole thing was strange for many reasons but the key one being the fact that they hadn't seen them in a good few years. They didn't speak on the phone, they didn't send texts or check one another's social media. Their relationship was bad and non-existing anymore yet they were going to be sitting here in a matter of hours acting like they had a right to get involved.
"It's going to be okay. This is our home and they have to be respectful in it. I won't let them say or do anything to upset you." Sophie tried to reassure her younger sister even though on the inside she was nervous too.
She could stand up to her parents, that wasn't a problem but what was against her was the legalities which meant they were technically still in charge of Juliet. They would get the final say in everything and although it was unfair, it was how it would be.
"This has all been blown way out of proportion. I wish I had just done better in school and none of this would have happened!"
"Hey, hey! Don't say that." Sophie stood to her feet and rushed over to take a seat before Juliet. "This isn't your fault. Things have been tough and we're going to make mistakes but unfortunately your school expects us to be perfect."
"Mum and dad are going to expect that too, they've always been that way."
"I know but it's none of their business anymore. They haven't been in our lives."
Nodding her head, Juliet was trying to push all thoughts of tonight out of her mind because it was only increasing her stress even more. She couldn't control what was going to happen and she also couldn't stop it so she just had to accept it.
She would have to face her parents and with the support of her sister, stick up to them and prove that they were fine on their own. There was no time to sit around worrying about it when instead, it was more important to be prepared to deal with this all maturely.
"It's going to be okay, Juliet. I promise." Sophie stressed when she still saw the worry over her sister's face.
"I think I should go and do some work. It will take my mind off of it and I need to catch up anyway." Juliet replied, knowing that if she was going to try and do anything to help the situation, this would be a good start.
...
"Are you alright babe?" Aaron asked Sophie as he pulled her into his arms.
He'd just arrived at her door after a long day of lectures and knew she would be needing the company right now.
"I don't know, I just feel numb." Sophie replied honestly. "I don't know what I am going to do if the worst case scenario happens. I have nothing to defend myself."
"They're not going to take her away, Soph."
Aaron instantly knew what her biggest worry was and was aware of how much anxiety it was causing her. Sophie had always been the one person in Juliet's life that was stable and someone she could always look up to, not her parents. However, it would be so easy for that to all be taken away.
