Jess / Sophie
1 week later
"Hello Miss Jess Montague!" Sophie's voice was heard as her arm was laced into Jess'.
She had been walking down the corridors in uni, minding her own business before Sophie's appearance caused her body to jump. It didn't matter where she was in this huge building, her best friend always managed to pick her out among the sea of crowds.
"Oh my God, you frightened me." Jess' hand flew to her chest as she turned to see Sophie and Aaron now by her side.
She couldn't help but smile as they walked hand in hand, finally looking happy together once again. These two may argue more than any couple she had ever known but they still managed to be the cutest couple she had ever known too. There was something about their playful personalities and the way that they enjoyed winding each other up which made them comical to watch.
"You were walking so fast, I didn't think I was going to catch you up." Sophie teased, making a point about how Jess was always walking at an insane speed no matter where she went. It didn't matter if she had to be somewhere at a particular time or not, she would always make sure she was moving fast.
"I didn't even realise I was!" Jess laughed as she then consciously slowed her pace.
"Were you rushing to find Jack?" Sophie lowered her voice into near enough a whisper and nudged Jess' side. She knew this was a conversation she probably wouldn't want Aaron hearing so she was purposely keeping it low key.
Turning to look at her best friend, Jess rolled her eyes before shaking her head.
"He's at home still."
"What? No he's not?"
Sophie's confused expression caused Jess to mimic it as she was now unsure how she had missed out on this piece of information. The morning after Jess had stayed over his, Jack had left shortly after to go home and visit his family. She wasn't sure if it was their conversation or if he already had plans but he had decided it was about time he headed home.
It had now been a week since he had left and for the first two days they had both been texting non-stop. Jess went to sleep texting him and would wake up in the morning to his replies, which she had very quickly got used to. However, a few more days in and the replies had instantly stopped. All contact from him had been cut and he hadn't text her once.
Jess had assumed it was just because he was busy with his family. He didn't get to see them much and she knew how much his brother had been missing him. However, now the confusion and worry had truly hit her as according to Sophie, he was already back.
"I thought he was still with his family?" Jess asked, even though she knew that Sophie would obviously know if he was back considering she had spent a lot of time with Aaron lately.
"No, he came back a few days ago. I thought you guys were texting?"
Naturally glimpsing down at her phone, Jess' heart completely sunk and she suddenly felt sick. She was already jumping to conclusions even though she knew she shouldn't but it was hard not to. She had spent the past week with the biggest smile on her face due to whatever was blossoming between them but now that had just been completely cut.
"We were..." Jess began, trying to talk quietly so Aaron didn't hear. She could tell he was trying to listen but this really wasn't a conversation she wanted him involved in. "But he stopped a few days ago and I just assumed he was with his family."
Sophie let out a long aggravated sigh as she suddenly looked really frustrated. It was clear that she had also jumped to conclusions like Jess had and this was the one thing she didn't want happening to Jess. She had been positive that things seemed different with them and that Jack wouldn't screw her over like he did everyone else. However, with this small piece of news she was beginning to wonder if she had invested too much hope in them and been blinded to what Jack could be doing to her best friend.
