Leon slashed at Malqua; he dodged backwards Leon’s crystal katana missing only by a few inches. Kelly stabbed forward and Malqua dodged by spinning past the sword. Leon slashed again but Malqua dodged again.
‘How is he so quick?’ Leon thought to himself. ‘It’s as if he is one step ahead of us whenever we make any attack!’
Malqua raised his hand and forced a wave of Aqua Mana into Kelly. At the last second he raised he crystal shield guarding the blast. It still sent her hurtling backwards and slamming across the ground.
Malqua turned his attention to Leon next. He forced a blast of Aqua Magic into Leon’s gut. Leon did the best he could to hold his own but he stumbled backwards falling onto the ground.
He could feel pain running through his gut and yet he knew he couldn’t stay down, he had to get back on his feet.
Leon struggled to sit up, but he felt something zip past him just above his head.
It was an arrow of Red Magic that whizzed past Leon’s head. It slammed into Malqua’s shoulder. He barely flinched.
Laughing he said ‘Honestly did you expect that to hurt me at all? Foolish boy Red Magic plays barely any effect against Aqua Magic, after all water beats fire.’
Blain seemed paralysed in fear. Those arrows required allot of his mana and it didn’t even faze Malqua.Leon sprung back to his feet, his legs shook and ached.
Summoning all his strength Leon pulled the crystal katana in front of him-self and charged.
The thin layer of water rippled and splashed around his feet as they thumped into it.
Leon thrusted the sword forward with all the power he could.
The katana stabbed through the air and Leon felt it deep down, he would hit his mark.
Concentrating he closed his eyes and came to a stop, with the katana out in front of him and through Malqua. After a few seconds Leon opened his eyes and looked in front of himself.
His expression changed to one of fear as he realised his sword had missed Malqua. Instead it had plunged into a barrier of water between himself and Malqua.
Pain trashed into Leon as Malqua’s fist plunged into his jaw with enough force to send Leon tumbling across the ground.
‘I’ll complement you on your strategy. You arranged the roles of your friends and yourself well. However I’ll let you in on a little secret. I’ll tell you why you can’t defeat me.’ Malqua taunted.
Leon struggled to get his own muscles to work. They ached and trembled even though his mind commanded them to work.
Finally Leon rolled over propped himself up with his elbows. His clothes were drenched in mud; his face was also smeared and in despite of all his strength he couldn’t quiet manage to look up.
‘Your plan was nearly flawless. . . nearly. Your arranged roles were strong, supporting and fighters. Against a normal opponent it may have worked however I have mastery over one of the most complex forms of Aqua Magic. The layer of water on the ground allows me to feel vibrations and changes of pressure allowing me to be able to predict my opponent’s moves and see traps before I accidently spring them.’
Leon’s eyes widened in realisation. How could he possibly win? He was outmatched and outclassed. How could he possibly beat an opponent who knew everything he was about to do before he even did it. Finally Leon looked up, trying to meet Malqua’s eyes.
Malqua extended a hand out in front of himself and water swirled into a sphere in his palm.
‘This is the end.’
Leon’s head bowed. He was silent for a moment however he began making a small laughing sound.
He stopped after a brief moment and said confidently looking up with a smirk ‘Sorry but this is far from over!’A golden whip latched around Malqua’s hand ripping it away from Leon breaking his concentration for his spell. Malqua was spun around by the whip and there stood Alexandra holding onto him tightly.
‘Sorry, but no chance you are getting out of the grip of my whip.’ She smirked.
As Malqua concentrated on Alexandra Kelly jumped over her and slashed down at him. Malqua only just managed to dodge with his clothes just being cut. As he dodged he spun backward but when he stopped he had found that Leon had managed to somehow regain his strength and slash his katana slamming into Malqua’s chest. Then toppled backward a few steps and Leon charged forward in a thrust, his katana only falling an inch short as Malqua managed to blast him backward with a torrent of gushing water.
Malqua tried to take down Kelly next with another wave of water like a cannon but a the last second she raised her shield which took most of the damage for her, however she was still sent sliding back across the ground, injured.
Malqua stepped forward and shouted. ‘That was a nice try, kid. However it will take more than simple tricks to beat me!’
Leon shakily got back on his feet, raised an arm and beckoned on Malqua saying ‘Than come here and get some.’
‘Malqua smirked and simple replied with ‘Fine’.
He stepped forward and was ready to charge when something caught his back ankle. Malqua glared down and growled in anger as he saw a rope or Green Magic stuck around his ankle.
Malqua scanned his eyes across Leon and his friends until finally he came to find Collin with a huge smirk on his face.
‘What’s the matter?’ Collin asked rhetorically. ‘I thought you could sense all movement through this water? Or does that not apply to Green Magic?’
‘Release me now!’ Malqua shouted.
‘No chance!’
As quickly as she could Alexandra latched her whip around Malqua’s other leg so that he couldn’t move his legs at all.
‘Leon now’s your chance!’ Blaine shouted.
Leon repositioned his stance into a thrust stance then charged forward. He covered ground extremely quickly, summoning up what strength he had left until he leaped through the air thrusting forward.About midway through the thrust he landed and came to a complete halt not completing his attack. In front of him reformed the woman Aqua Magic.
Leon found himself unable to attack.
‘I won’t let you kill the person I love!’ She shouted at Leon.
Leon was paralysed by fear. He had no intention of killing anyone and yet he knew that to get this woman to move but he knew he would have to kill her, there would be no other way.
His grip on his katana tightened, he struggled, he had to end this but without killing. as Leon began to Lower his katana he saw the woman lurch as a long blade of water pierced her heart and moved straight towards him. He barely had time to dodge but he had just managed to with his chest with a shallow but long cut across his chest.
Leon tumbled across the ground in pain as blood began to slowly seep out of his wound.
Alexandra and Collin were so shocked that they unwillingly let go of their grip on Malqua.
The woman toppled backwards into Malqua’s arms and he lent backward to catch her. As his knee landed on the ground he cradled her in his arms. Leon could see that she was still alive.
‘Malqua my love, it was worth dying to keep you safe.’ She said softly as blood trickled out of her mouth and ran down freely out of her would.
‘You need not fear. Embrace death for you have died to save a loved one.’ He replied.
‘Please take the pain away?’ she asked.
Malqua nodded. He placed his hands on her cheek, looked into her closing eyes and broke her neck, she was dead instantly.
Leon could do nothing but watch on in horror; he felt a cold emptiness inside, as if some kind of monster from the pits of hell reached up and gripped his heart. He felt petrified. His hairs stood on end and felt himself falling into a pit of darkness, an endless pit that he was trapped in then his rage took control.
