Leon turned his back to Malqua. He wanted nothing more to do with him.
‘Mr Erikson are there any authorities we can call for him?’ Leon asked shouting.
‘The school has a place we can hold him until the correct authorities get here.’ Erikson answered.
Leon was incredibly tired, his clothes were soaked in water and mud and he was dirty everywhere. He couldn’t wait to get back and have a shower but then he remembered his dorm had been destroyed and he was staying with Collin.
‘Hey Collin is it ok if I stay with you for a bit longer?’ He asked jokingly.
‘After today feel free to stay as long as you bloody want, man.’ Collin joked back.
Leon laughed, this small relief of tension felt good, he felt a bit less stressed, and even though only a little he was at least glad that that warm shower was there waiting for him.
Alexandra felt relieved to see Leon alright, probably more than everyone else but she was also both mad and grateful for him for fighting the way he did.
She couldn’t help but feel that Leon’s ability to jump into battle head on was careless and dangerous but most of all she worried her friend would die. She could see from just a brief glance that Leon was exhausted, the blue colour in his clothes fading and the Sapphire blue in his eyes changing to a deep brown again and even the way his hair had lowered itself and its brown was darker.
She looked as his chest moved back and forth heavily and tired. His eyes half way closed with exhaustion and she noticed for the first time that his katana had disappeared.
He stumbled more than he walked, his shoulders slumped and legs almost dragging along the ground.
Finally she was only a few metres away from Leon.
She could hear his panting and as he began to get closer her heart beat faster.
She could feel herself wanting to reach out and grab him. Finally she decided that he must need a hug and so she wrapped her arms tightly around him.‘Are you ok?’ she asked concerned.
‘A bit tired, but otherwise fine.’ Leon whispered back.
Alexandra felt relieved.
‘You worried me to death.’ She said with a lump in her throat.
‘I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.’ He mumbled.
‘It’s ok, I don’t blame you.’ She said with a smile curling up at the corners of her lips. She began to run her hand through Leon’s hair, he was heavy but probably only because he wasn’t able to balance out his own weight.
Leon yawned with his head resting on his shoulders.
‘Thank you Alexandra.’ He said as he fell asleep. With all her attention focused on Leon Alexandra hadn’t noticed that Kelly, Collin, Blain and Erikson had walked up to her. It wasn’t until Erickson scooped up Leon in his arms that she remembered she wasn’t alone.
‘He must be exhausted, let’s get him home.’ Erikson said with a gentle and warm smile to Alexandra.
‘Yeah, he deserves a good night’s rest.’ She said quietly.
Erikson, Alexandra, Blaine and Collin all faced the school but groans distracted Kelly.
She turned to find Malqua wobbling on his feet. In his usable hand swirled a spear of water. He was dazed and trying to find his balance. Kelly didn’t seem to register him for a moment the his arm moved back as he prepared to launch the spear. Without a moment’s hesitation Kelly Threw her Crystal short sword while it was still infused with her magic and it stabbed right through Malqua’s leg cause a gushing spray of blood to ooze out of it.
He fell to his knee and cried out in pain. This made everyone remember him and when they turned they saw Kelly punching him in the face with her shield, knocking him unconscious.
Kelly pulled her sword from his leg, blood dripped from the blade and she slashed it mid air, making most of the blood come off.
‘Collin, Blain! Wanna drag his ass back to school?’ She asked.
They both ran to Malqua and picked him up and dragged him back to the school with Kelly, Alexandra and Erikson carrying Leon in toe.Leon awoke the next day in a comfortable bed.
It was late in the morning. He got up to look around for Collin and realised he was probably at school.
There was a spare change of day clothes at the foot of his sleeping bag.
Leon’s joints were all stiff. His body cracked as he sat up and shook his head about trying to get his sense of reality back. He brushed his fingers through his hair, his fingers snagged on a few knots and he realised his hair was still filled with dry mud.
‘Well at least if no one showered they didn’t perve on me.’ He laughed.Back at the school Erikson was sitting in the principal’s office.
The office was decorated with a great deal of beautiful furniture.
There was a large bookshelf with more than a hundred books, each assorted with different coloured covers. There were small tables with notes and charms scattered across them and in the centre a large mahogany desk on it several books and scrolls with an ink well nearby. The chairs were wooden but cushioned on the back and the seat. Light shone in shapes through the windows on the roof. The door creaked open.
The principal stepped through. His grey robes were close to his ankles. His long beard seemed tidied up and combed
‘Can I help you Liam?’ He asked as he closed the door and walked over to his seat behind the desk.
‘Forgive my surprise visit Kellam but I assume you know why I’m here?’ Erikson replied.
‘You’re here about the attack on the school and about the boy.’ Kellam replied.
‘Good guess.’ Erikson answered. ‘We need to find out why the island was attacked and why it seems that Leon may have just been their target.’
‘Well I think it’s clear why Leon would be a target. He’s powers increase with every battle, and it’s not like an extremist group of Aqua Magics wouldn’t target the only Blue Magic in the world. A covert assassination is much more practical than an army.’
‘But if that were true then why attack the town? Why not just sneak into Leon’s dorm and kill him quietly.’
‘I’m not sure. There are many possibilities. The only things we can find out are from Malqua and his men.’
There was a silence for a few moments then Erikson spoke again. ‘Could it be they were mercenaries sent by… them?’
‘We can’t just assume it was them… just because Leon is a Blue Magic doesn’t mean that they are back too.’
‘Still it may be wise to cancel upcoming major school events to be on the safe side.
‘Liam you know we can’t do that. The students will become suspicious and stressed out. Besides you know the school dance is coming up next week and just because you can’t dance doesn’t mean we should cancel it.’ Kellam chuckled.
