Leon stood at one end of the courtyard wearing his Blank cloak and holding a crystal katana.
Blaine stood at the other wearing his Red cloak and clutching his crystal bow that had already transformed and looked more realistic.
For the first time since coming to the academy Leon felt like he was fighting for the fun of it. He finally felt like this fight wouldn't before his life but rather to test his skills and so Leon knew he was going to enjoy himself.
Blaine could see quiet easily that Leon was excited for the fight; he had to admit he was even excited.

'Good luck Leon!' He shouted across the courtyard.
'Thanks Blaine! Best of luck to you too!' Leon shouted back smiling.

There were humming and buzzing noises and then the barrier lit up and surrounded the courtyard.
‘Let the fight begin!’ Kellam shouted.
The crowd let off an enormous roar of excitement and even Leon’s friends were excited for the fight.
Blain took the lead, raising his bow and pulling back an invisible string. As the bow pulled back red mana materialised in the bow and turned into a red crystal arrow.
Leon readied himself, preparing for the arrow he raised the sword in front of him.
‘I need to dodge or deflect.’ He thought to himself as he began to run at Blain not quite in a straight line.
‘I hope you’re ready for this Leon!’ Blaine shouted as he released the arrow which zipped forward at an extreme speed.

The arrow was aimed for Leon’s chest but he knew what to do.
Quickly slashing his sword Leon smashed the arrow which burst with a flash of red light.
Leon continued to charge and Blaine fired another arrow at him.
Leon dodged this time and the arrow hit the ground.
If Blaine didn’t land a hit soon then Leon would close the gap and gain the advantage.

Blaine decided it wasn’t the time to hold back against an opponent like Leon.
He fired an arrow directly at Leon. This one was aimed to hit him in the chest and wind him.
Again Leon guarded and the arrow shattered on the crystal Katana.
Blaine began to fire more and more rapidly Leon was guarding but he was running out of breath, he couldn’t keep blocking.
Finally Blaine pulled back the bow as tight as it would go. He concentrated as much as he could The arrow formed slower but the amount of magic being poured into it was significantly greater than the rest.

Leon knew this was his chance, he had to get as close as he possibly could.
Quickly he shot off in a frontal charge but then something made him stop.
He could feel his right hand beginning to warm up, but the only thing in his right hand was his Katana. There was a sudden loud cracking noise and Leon instantly realised it was from his Katana when he looked down and saw that it had been flooded with Red Magic.
The blade was cracked from the overflow of Magic and going to explode. This had been Blaine’s plan all along, a delayed attack that triggered sooner with more magic being used and this last arrow would definitely take Leon out of the fight.
Thinking on his feet Leon threw the sword at Blaine who was completely caught off guard.
‘Damn it I have to stop it before it hits me.’ Blaine said to himself.

Blaine fired the arrow and it collided with the sword creating a bright explosion of red mana that prevented him from seeing.
‘Damn it!’ He shouted shaking his head in an attempt to regain his senses.
When finally he could see again Leon was only a few meters away from him and was moving so quick Blaine had no time to launch another arrow.
‘I’ve got you!’ Leon shouted as his fist slammed through the air and at Blaine.

There was a silence in the crowd.
All of Leon and Blaine’s friends stared intently, waiting for the outcome.
Leon had closed his eyes to shield his vision from the blast of Magic but he knew that when he launched his attack he was aimed right for Blaine, and yet for some reason his fist didn’t connect.
When finally Leon opened his eyes he found that Blaine was gone.
‘That was a good try!’ Blaine shouted from behind Leon.
‘How did you get over there so fast?’ Leon asked turning around.
‘Why don’t I leave that surprise for later, in the meantime are you going to fight me or what?’
‘Well you still have your crystal bow...’
‘What this thing?’ Blaine said as he raised the broken bow in front of him.
‘Explosion do that?’
‘Yeah, so now we’re on an even playing field lad.’
‘Good, but I hope you know when it comes to hand to hand, I think I have an advantage.’ Leon smirked.
