Erikson's Heart

Erikson was on patrol at Academy Island.
Since Kellam had left Rick’s father had moved in and was trying to control the school.
At first students had resisted and Ricks father had ordered his men to ruthlessly deal with them, somewhere tortured, others humiliated and some even so brutally injured it left them with broken bones.
The port at the town had almost been entirely closed off with ships only able to come and go with prior permission.
The town itself was practically on lockdown, a curfew had been put in place and there were armed mercenaries patrolling the streets.
A small group of Blanks were with Erikson, they were his support in case he ran into any trouble.
‘I prefer to work alone.’ He had told Rick’s father.
‘All the key figures in our cause need body guards, can’t have you getting killed no can we.’ Rick’s father had told him in a tone that seemed as if he was talking to a child.

The Blank’s with Erikson were tough but not nearly as strong as Erikson himself.
When he was on patrol the only thing that really kept him occupied were his own thoughts, no one had attempted to leave the island in two weeks so he was there more for looks than anything.
Even the teachers had stopped resisting, most of them were imprisoned, some swapped sides and some had even been killed.

There was a part of Erikson that wondered what it would be like if he hadn’t have joined Rick’s side, a part that wondered if Leon was the one who was right. He had to shake off these thoughts almost immediately, he knew if he didn’t he would be open to weakness when Leon finally did come back.

There was a bright flash of light not far away from the patrol as Leon, Malqua and Aqwaya materialised in a group of trees.
‘We should be as quiet as possible.’ Leon said as he darted behind a tree.
Malqua and Aqwaya followed Leon’s actions and ran behind trees for cover.

In the two months spent at Origin Temple Aqwaya had let her hair grow long again, although it had grown at an unbelievable pace. She hoped that maybe if she came to Erikson as the person she was when they thought then he could forgive her for what she had done to his father.
Both Leon and Aqwaya were armed. There had been a small armoury room containing crystal weapons at Origin temple. Leon had taken a Katana and Aqwaya had taken a scythe, both of them knew these weapons well. Malqua had refused a weapon however; he preferred to manipulate his magic as a weapon.

The trees provided the perfect cover as the trio snuck ever so closer to the patrol and ever closer to Erikson.
‘You both remember Kellam’s plan?’ Malqua asked with a whisper.
Leon and Aqwaya responded with a nod each.
Malqua turned to Erikson’s patrol who had noticed the flash of light but were not entering the tree line.
‘The probably know we’re here.’ He said.
‘Then we should attack now while we still have the advantage.’ Aqwaya recommended.
Malqua nodded and a sphere of aqua coloured Magic appeared in his hands. The clouds in the night sky began to converge together and rain began to crash down from the sky.
Like Rick, Malqua was a special case, he didn’t need to enchant a spell to cast it which gave him a deadly advantage over the enemy.
‘So it is you.’ Erikson announced at the bushes.
‘He knows we’re here!’ Aqwaya shouted.
‘Go!’ Leon ordered.

Following Leon’s order Malqua launched his sphere of water and it collided into the ground causing dust to get knocked into the air blocking the vision of all the people out in the opening.
Leon shot out of the bushes unbelievably fast. Malqua and Aqwaya followed and then stopped ready to battle Erikson.
But Leon had run into the dust, it was his job to take care of the Blanks supporting Erikson so that Malqua and Aqwaya would be free to take him down.
Not wanting to kill anyone Leon focused and his katana changed shape slightly, the blade was blunt, now the worst he could do was break a few bones and those were easily fixed.
