(Rachel's POV)

People are afraid of the word 'cult'.

Some people don't even understand what the word means. The strange thing is that almost every person you know or will ever meet is apart of a cult in some way or another.

I was in a cult. Randy was in a cult. Justin led a cult and Tanner's cult opposed Justin's.

But friendship groups are not the only cults around. Churches are considered cults, schools are considered cults, and even some workplaces are considered cults. Society is full of cults but people still hate the sound of the word and they refuse to use it.

So why are they afraid to say it out loud? Because people hate what the word stands for.

Cults practise mind control. Cults always have a leader. And every cult, in every context, asks its members to surrender their individuality. They are no longer 'one' but they are a 'group' of many people.

If you're in a cult you befriend cult members only. If you're in a cult then you believe what that cult believes and nothing else. You agree with the leader and you agree with their rules.

But what if you don't?

What if you love the leader? What if you love his followers? But what if you hate his rules?

Then what do you do?

I liked Oliver. I trusted him. But Justin wanted him gone.

"Are you okay?"

Blaine found me alone. I was sitting outside and waiting for Justin. He was talking to Randy in the kitchen. Randy had just yelled at me and Justin wanted to calm things down.

"Go away Blaine..."

Blaine didn't go away. He sat down besides me and kept prying for information.

"Are you in trouble?"

"No"

"I saw Randy yelling at you"

"Good for you"

"Did you do something wrong?"

"No"

"Do you need help?"

"No!"

I turned myself away from him, shunning the enemy.

"Rachel, I know that we're not friends anymore..."

"No kidding,"

"And I know that you hate me..."

"Like cancer,"

"But please don't lose yourself in Justin's group... Please don't stop being you..."

"Why would you even say that?"

It was like he had been reading my mind. My worries sounded worse out loud.

"Because I know how groups like Justin's work. I know what they do to people"

"No you don't..."

"Yes I do," he replied, "They take a whole group of people and they force them to think and act the same way..."

"It's not like that..."

"And if you don't follow the leaders rules then the rest of the group make you feel like you're stupid or wrong..."

"No,"

In Justin's group they didn't make you feel stupid for breaking the rules, they made you feel evil instead. Randy had made me feel like Satan just because I had dared to make a friend who wasn't on Justin's 'approved' list.
