(Rachel's POV)

"Please,"

"But Justin..."

"Just one page?" he asked, "I'll trade it to you for a kiss?"

I rolled my eyes, "I get kisses whenever I want,"

"Not if I go on strike"

"You won't''

"I could,"

"You won't though"

"But I could..."

He wouldn't, but I handed him the diary anyway. Justin kissed me on the cheek, and then turned to the pages that were focused on him. There were a lot of them so I was blushing when he started to read.

'Dear Pongo.... Rachel, why did you name your diary Pongo?"

"It looked like a Japanese Panda..."

"Never mind," he cut me off.

He pressed down the pages.

"Okay..... grade five.... Today, Caroline Pearson announced that Steven Hassingford had kissed her at his Go-Kart party last weekend. I hate Caroline Pearson. She kicks me in squad training and she always steals my friends. Monica Mearson said she'd been kissed too. I felt left out. So I lied. I said Justin had kissed me at the ski house and I said that he'd kissed me four times,"

Oh no. Not this story.

"Four times huh?"

"Why don't we - "

"No," he pulled the book back, "Caroline didn't believe me. She said I was too ugly to be kissed. Plus, Justin has a girlfriend now, so I probably shouldn't have lied about that,"

Justin stopped reading, and turned to me, ignoring my bright red face "Who was I dating again?"

"Maggie Cormier," I mumbled, "She had blue eyes and blonde hair. She was really pretty,"

"Oh yeah. Maggie,"

Then he turned back to the pages.

"Caroline said she was going to ask Justin if it was true. I begged her not to, but she shoved me out of the way and did it anyway. She asked Justin right to his face. I was standing by my locker and Justin frowned over at me. Then he said something I couldn't hear. I ran for the bus,"

Justin laughed as I hid into my pillow.

"Why are you hiding?"

"Because it's embarrassing"

"Embarrassing?" he asked, "It was our first kiss,"

"Only because you felt sorry for me,"

I remembered it clearly. Justin caught me in the bus line. He turned me around and kissed me, right in front of everyone. I guess he wanted witnesses. I guess he wanted to save me from my lie. And he did in a way. Everyone believed me after that kiss. Everyone believed the story after that day. Everyone but me.

It was a short kiss, sweet, like strawberry ice cream and lemonade. When it was over Justin looked at me and then at his shoes. He mumbled, "Now it's not a lie".

Then he walked away.

We didn't talk for a few weeks after. I was scared of him. Whenever he came over to the house I hid upstairs in my room. But soon things went back to normal.

"You never told William,"

"No"

"And you never told Randy,"
