(Rachel's POV)
"You think I can't cook?"
"No, I just think it might be easier if we go to the store and buy proper ingredients"
When we got off the boat and back to the house, I was still hungry. I hadn't eaten my dinner during the fashion show and all we had back at the bungalow was alcohol and candy.
"A real chef can work with what he's got"
"No Justin, a stupid chef can make a disaster out of what he's got. Let's just order room service!"
"I love how you doubt me - sit up here,"
Justin pulled me up and onto the kitchen bench before standing in front of me and reading a recipe off of his iphone.
"You can help me," he said.
"Help with what?"
"Conversation"
I always helped with conversation. Justin found my ramblings amusing rather then annoying.
"Tell me something that I missed"
"Missed?"
"Yeah, I was gone for three years. That's a century of catching up to do in the world of Rachel Green"
"Not really"
"Yes really"
"My life wasn't that interesting back then"
"It's interesting to me. Just tell me something - Big or small I don't care"
I watched Justin scoop spoonfuls of ice cream into a bowl and I tried to think of something to tell him. My life three tears ago was concentrated around Randy's grief. I had little memories of my own and most of the ones I had were bad.
"Oh! I know! I had a near death experience!"
"No way?"
"Yes! Some plover birds attacked me!" I explained, "I walked past their nest and they swooped at me with their sharp beaks! I had to lay on the front lawn and play dead for three hours before someone came home to help me!!"
"Really?"
"Yes and - and - wait - why are you laughing?"
"I'm not laughing"
"Yes you are!"
"No, I am really, really concerned that some killer birds tried to attack you"
"Kill me - not attack me - kill me!"
"Uhuh"
"I'm serious!!"
"M&M?" he offered.
"Not a red one"
"Here..."
He put two green ones into my mouth.
"Keep talking. Tell me something else"
"Okay - Um.... Oh I know! I went to boarding school!"
"You did? When?"
"About a year after you left. But I only stayed for two terms"
"What happened?"
"Why do you automatically assume that something happened?"
"What happened?" he asked again.
"Well... there was an incident in church one Palm Sunday"
"Oh yeah?"
"Yes," I nodded, "And incase you were wondering, palm fronds and fire do not mix!"
