The weakened Sanada clan attacked the Hojo clan. The Hojo placed traps in the tunnels, flooding the Sanada out and killing hundreds of their samurai. Without enough men for a siege, the Sanada clan fled. Reports of Ren's death soon reached the ears of everyone in Japan. Whether she fled and committed seppuku to retain her honor, or whether Naoki Hojo followed the Sanada survivors and captured and executed her, is a complete mystery. Perhaps we will never know.
The Asai clan attacked the Imagawa, sneaking into the tunnels leading into the main castle. Imagawa's strategy with cannons and centepedes was sound, killing thousands of Asai samura and hundreds of Imagawa samurai. They were forced to retreat back to their war camp, just outside Imagawa castle walls. There, they attempted a siege, one that lasted two months. With both clans only having one month of supplies left, and the Asai army having lost half their numbers and several failed attempts at sieges, the Asai chose to retreat. Imagawa, infuriated by their sudden attack, charged after them while they were weakened. The battle was long and arduous. Imagawa samurai and Asai samurai slaughtered each other until their leaders, Kyou Asai and Hirotei Imagawa, fought each other. Men of techniques, their fight itself was the main event of the battle. Even their fellow samurai stopped fighting each other to watch them. No one knows if Asai won the fight and killed Hireotei, or if he was wounded and later executed. But days later, news spread of Hirotei's death and following it, the surrender of his army. Now, the Imagawa have been forever lost in the pages of history. Survivors are immersed into the Asai clan.
