"We gave him some very strong painkillers-"

"But is he going to be okay, Doctor?!" A female voice asked with concern and loss in her voice.

That voice sounded so familiar...I opened my eyes but everything was fuzzy.

"Johanna?" I croaked. I heard a door close but I couldn't see who had left. In the back of my head I heard a russian lullaby. My head rolled to the side as I caught the smell of a forest before sleep took over my body.

I woke up at night. The whiteness of the moon came through the window and matched the whiteness of the bed sheets and the walls. My vision was clear again and I could see Johanna curled up in a chair by the side of the bed, asleep. I reached my hand out and touched her but she didn't move. Its like the world was frozen except for me. Grabbing the corner of the bed sheets, I pushed them off and swung my legs over the bed. The cold of the tile floor stung my bare feet as I walked across the room and pushed open the door. The sound of monitors beeping and of wheelchairs squeaking greeted me, but I had no idea where those things were coming from. So I followed the white walls until I reached a metal door. I wasn't sure why, but I opened it and walked inside. A cold fog settled around my feet as I observed the large room and the metal lockers it had on its walls. I opened one of the lockers; there was a bed sheet in it. I lifted the sheet up and was face to face with ten white toes. A tag was wrapped around one of them; which I picked up and read the name: Jane Doe. I jumped back in fright. I hadn't realized that I had stumbled upon the morgue...or that the hospital even had one. I opened the next locker and slid out the body, this time I locked at the face of a pretty teenage girl with brown hair and red lips.; I wondered how her lips were still red even though she was dead. At that minute I felt a hazy blanket settle over me. I opened the next locker. The outline of the person was really small and halfway up there was a blood stain on the white sheet. I lifted the sheet and saw the ripped off legs of a child. There was a tag which I read, but the name confused me; Catia. I don't know why I didn't freak out or cry. I just continued opening the freezers. In the second one was a tall blonde haired guy, he had large muscles, a powerful face and a strong jaw line. The name on the tag was: John Doe. In the next one was an ivory skinned girl with straight bleach blonde hair, and the one after her was a girl who looked very similar but was much younger; fourteen or fifteen maybe. I wondered if they were mother and daughter. The tag on the older blonde said: Jane Doe; the tag on the younger one just said: Jane. Well, maybe they forgot the 'Doe' part. I thought maybe they were a family since they were all blonde and looked very powerful. I opened the freezer across from where I had found Catia's legs; halfway down, the white sheet was stained red. I lifted the cover from the head and saw Catia's pretty face. Her black curls were just as bouncy, and her green eyes stared wide at me, frozen in fear. There were cuts and scratches and gashes all over her body. There were holes in her neck and the inner parts of her small arms. She was ripped apart by a monster...

I heard the creaking of metal. I whirled around to see what had made the sound but I saw nothing. I looked back at Catia and the way the moon made her skin like pearly and almost iridescent. A shadow flashed across her body. I turned around again. But this time I noticed what I didn't notice the first time; the look-alike Jane and John Does' bodies were gone.

'Gabriel,' I began to hear voices in my mind.

'I miss you,' one said. It sounded younger than the others.

'We used to be friends. Brothers, even,' a male voice said.

'We used to be lovers, until you killed me,' a seductive female voice whispered. I could feel her tongue run over my ear as I listened.
